Claims
- 1. A process for producing an .alpha.-ketoamide of the formula (III): ##STR9## wherein A is a hydrogen atom, a halogen atom, alkyl, alkenyl, alkynyl, alkoxy, alkyl halide, alkenyl halide, alkynyl halide, cycloalkyl, cycloalkenyl, optionally substituted phenyl or optionally substituted heterocyclic group, Z is --CH.sub.2 --, --O--, --S--, --CH(OH)--, --CO--, --NR-- (wherein R is a hydrogen atom or alkyl), --CH.sub.2 CH.sub.2 --, --CH.dbd.CH--, --C.tbd.C--, --CH.sub.2 O--, --CH.sub.2 S--, --CH.sub.2 S(O)--, --OCH.sub.2 --, --SCH.sub.2 --, --S(O)CH.sub.2 -- or epoxy, and R.sup.1 is alkyl or cycloalkyl, which comprises halogenating a carboxylic acid of the formula (IV): ##STR10## wherein A and Z are as defined above, to produce an acid halide of the formula (I): ##STR11## wherein X is a halogen atom and the other symbols are as defined above; and subjecting the acid halide to condensation with an isocyanide of the formula (II):
- R.sup.1 --NC (II)
- wherein R.sup.1 is as defined above, followed by hydrolysis.
- 2. A process according to claim 1, wherein the halogenating is conducted with a thionyl halide, phosphoryl halide or phosgene as a halogenating agent.
- 3. A process according to claim 1, wherein the halogenating is conducted with 1.1 to 1.2 mol of halogenating agent per 1 mol of the carboxylic acid of the formula (IV).
- 4. A process according to claim 1, wherein A-Z- is phenoxy and R.sup.1 is methyl.
- 5. A process according to claim 1, wherein A-Z- is 2,5-dimethylphenoxymethyl and R.sup.1 is methyl.
- 6. A process according to claim 1, wherein the condensation is carried out at 20.degree. to 80.degree. C.
- 7. A process according to claim 1, wherein the amount of the isocyanide of the formula (II) to be used is 1.1 to 1.2 mol per 1 mol of the acid halide of the formula (I).
- 8. A process according to claim 1, wherein the halogenation is carried out at 0.degree. to 80.degree. C.
- 9. A process according to claim 1, wherein the halogenation is carried out for 0.5 to 1 hour.
