Claims
- 1. A process for decomposing syngenite comprising reacting said syngenite with an acid, said acid selected from the group consisting of those acids having a dissociation constant of at least 1.2.times.10.sup.-2 at a temperature and for sufficient time such that the syngenite decomposes to CaSO.sub.4 and KHSO.sub.4.
- 2. The process of claim 1 wherein the acid is a mineral acid.
- 3. The process of claim 2 wherein the mineral acid is H.sub.2 SO.sub.4.
- 4. The process of claim 1 wherein the temperature is in the range of 60.degree. to 100.degree. C.
- 5. The process of claim 1 and further including the step of separating the KHSO.sub.4 from the CaSO.sub.4 and recycling the recovered CaSO.sub.4 to produce syngenite, recovering said syngenite and decomposing said syngenite with said acid.
- 6. A process for decomposing syngenite comprising reacting said syntenite with an acid, said acid selected from the group consisting of those acids having a dissociation constant of at least 1.2.times.10.sup.-2 at a temperature and for sufficient time such that the syngenite decomposes to the pentasalt, 5CaSO.sub.4.K.sub.2 SO.sub.4.H.sub.2 O, and KHSO.sub.4.
- 7. The process of claim 6 wherein the acid is a mineral acid.
- 8. The process of claim 7 wherein the mineral acid is H.sub.2 SO.sub.4.
- 9. The process of claim 6 wherein the temperature is in the range of 60.degree. to 100.degree. C.
- 10. The process of claim 6 and further including the step of separating the KHSO.sub.4 from the 5CaSO.sub.4.K.sub.2 SO.sub.4.H.sub.2 O and recycling the recovered 5CaSO.sub.4.K.sub.2 SO.sub.4.H.sub.2 O to produce syngenite, recovering said syngenite and decomposing said syngenite with said acid.
