Claims
- 1. An optically active polyester compound isolated from Pseudomonas oleovorans cells cultured in a nutrient medium in the presence of a carbon source and at least one nutrient essential for growth, said carbon source comprising at least one paraffin product containing 6-7 or 9-12 carbon atoms or at least one paraffin oxidation product containing 6-12 carbon atoms, said polyester compound comprising units other than exclusively 3-hydroxyoctanoate units or 3-hydroxyoctanoate and 3-hydroxyhectanoate units having the structural formula: ##STR4## wherein m represents an integer of 2-8.
- 2. An article of manufacture made from an optically active polyester compound according to claim 1.
- 3. The article according to claim 2 wherein said article is a suture, a film, a skin graft or a bone graft,
- 4. An optically active polyester compound isolated from Pseudomonas oleovorans cells cultured in a nutrient medium in the presence of a carbon source and at least one nutrient essential for growth, said carbon source comprising at least one compound selected from unbranched 1-olefins containing 7-12 carbon atoms and optionally one or more non-branched paraffins or paraffin oxidation products containing 6-12 carbon atoms, said polyester compound comprising units having the structural formula (1): ##STR5## and units having the structural formula (2): ##STR6## wherein m represents an integer of 2-8.
- 5. An article of manufacture made from an optically active polyester compound according to claim 4.
- 6. The article according to claim 5 wherein said article is a suture, a film, a skin graft or a bone graft.
