- wherein said shaping means includes a pair of clamps which operate to shape the respective link when said pair of vices is in said second working position.
- 2. An apparatus according to claim 1, wherein said means for making available said link elements-two-by two, and for providing the coupling of a first one of them with the last link formed, comprises
- a unit for the production of two spirals of wire-like material, each said spiral having an axis and advancing along its axis, and
- knife means for cutting in a respective operation one turn from each said spiral disposed transverse to the axis of the spiral and adjacent said shaping means, each said cut turn thus constituting a respective one of the link elements with said free ends for forming a respective link,
- wherein said two pairs of vices are controlled by said motion means so as to grasp the respective first turns of said spirals before said cutting thereof by said knife means, and
- wherein a first pair of said two pairs of vices hold the last link formed in a position in front of said advancing of a respective one of said spirals, so that an end of said respective spiral engages with one of said two link elements for said coupling thereof with said last-formed-link held by said first pair of vices.
- 3. An apparatus according to claim 2, wherein said unit for the production of two spirals comprises two outlet conduits for said spirals which are located side by side so that each respective pair of spiral having their respective axes oriented in parallel, and the link elements provided two-by-two after being grasped by said two pairs of vices and cut by said knife means from the respective spirals effectively define a single average common plane, the two ends of each said spiral diverging in parallel with said common plane and on opposite sides thereof.
- 4. An apparatus according to claim 1, wherein
- each said pair of vices are arranged on respective guideways to define said axis and said axial direction for each said pair of vices, each said pair of vices being accordingly slidable along said axial direction,
- each said pair of vices are guided by said guideways to be rotatable around said axis;
- said guideways being arranged on respective slidable supports for the integrally-provided motion between said first and second working positions, said integrally-provided motion being in a direction normal to said axis of said relative rotation of said two pairs of vices.
- 5. An apparatus according to claim 1, wherein
- said pair of clamps of said shaping means define a cavity suitable to contain each respective pair of the two coupled link elements being formed, and
- said two coupled link elements are placed at the ends of two of the respective link being shaped by said shaping means so as to be simultaneously movable in opposite directions in a second direction normal to said axial direction, for said transversal compressing of said link elements, and rock in opposite directions in a third direction normal to an average lying plane of said link, to bring said links towards each other for said orthogonal compressing of the link elements placed between said clamps for shaping each respective link, said second direction being effectively normal to said third direction.
- 6. An apparatus according to claim 5, comprising means for translating said pair of clamps from said second working positions towards a rest position, wherein said compressing of each respective link occurs with said pair of clamps being in said second working position, and thereafter said pair of clamps is returned to said rest position.
