Claims
- 1. Process for the enantioselective preparation of phenylisoserine of formula: ##STR9## in which R represents a phenyl radical and R.sub.1 represents an alkyl radical containing 1 to 4 carbon atoms comprising;
- reacting benzoyl chloride with a hydroxy azide of formula: ##STR10## in which R'.sub.1 represents a C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 alkyl radical in the presence of an organic base and an activating agent, adding methanol to form a reaction mixture, and further reacting the reaction mixture, without isolation of intermediate reaction products, in a hydrogen atmosphere in the presence of a hydrogenation catalyst, in an inert organic solvent at a temperature of between 0.degree. and 40.degree. C.
- 2. Process according to claim 1, wherein the hydrogenation catalyst is palladium on charcoal and the lower alcohol is methanol.
- 3. Process according to claim 1, wherein the organic base is triethylamine.
- 4. Process according to claim 1, wherein the activating agent is 4-dimethylaminopyridine.
- 5. Process according to claim 1, wherein the hydrogenation catalyst is palladium on charcoal.
- 6. Process according to claim 1, wherein the inert organic solvent is selected from the group consisting of methyl acetate and ethyl acetate.
