Claims
- 1. A cylinder brush, comprising one or more brush strips arranged on the cylinder surface of the brush, wherein said one or more brush strips comprise a mixture of metal wires as abrasive bristles and of organic fibers which comprise a polymer, wherein the ratio of the polymer fibers to the metal wires is in the range from 0.01:1 to 10: 1, whereby the surface of a metallic printing plate substrate is mechanically roughened with a suspension comprising abrasive particles in water, by means of wet-brushing said surface with said cylinder brush.
- 2. A cylinder brush as claimed in claim 1, wherein the one or more brush strips comprises a first group of brush strips containing substantially only the metal wires and a second group of brush strips containing substantially only the organic fibers, and wherein the first and second groups of brush strips are arranged on the cylinder surface in a repeating pattern.
- 3. The cylinder brush as claimed in claim 2, wherein the first group of brush strips contains only the metal wires and the second group of brush strips contains only the organic fibers.
- 4. A cylinder brush as claimed in claim 1, wherein the one or more brush strips comprise a first brush strip and a second brush strip, wherein the metal wires are arranged in groups in the first and second brush strips, and the organic fibers are arranged in groups in the first and second brush strips, and wherein the groups of the first brush strip are staggered with respect to the groups of the second brush strip.
- 5. The cylinder brush as claimed in claim 1, wherein the polymer is selected from the group consisting of polyamides, polyacrylonitriles, polyesters, polyethylenes, polyimides, polyolefins, polypropylenes, polyurethanes, polyvinyl chlorides and cellulose derivatives.
- 6. The cylinder brush as claimed in claim 1, wherein the metal is selected from the group consisting of stainless steel, aluminum, brass, bronze, copper, steel, iron and alloys of these metals.
- 7. The cylinder brush as claimed in claim 1, wherein the polymer fibers comprises polyamide and the wires comprise stainless steel.
- 8. The cylinder brush as claimed in claim 7, wherein the polyamide comprises one or more of nylon 6, nylon 6.6, nylon 6.10 and nylon 6.12.
- 9. The cylinder brush as claimed in claim 7, wherein the polyamide fibers are filled with inert particles.
- 10. The cylinder brush as claimed in claim 1, wherein the ratio of polymer fibers to metal wires is from 0.05:1 to 5:1.
- 11. The cylinder brush as claimed in claim 1, wherein the ratio of the fibers to metal wires is from 0.1:1 to 1.0:1.
- 12. The cylinder brush as claimed in claim 1, wherein the organic fibers have a thickness of from 0.05 to 3 mm, and the metal wires have a thickness of from 0.03 to 2 mm.
- 13. The cylinder brush as claimed in claim 1, wherein the one or more brush strips are of equal length, with the length being from 5 to 300 mm.
