Claims
- 1. In a process for the preparation of unsaturated aldehydes and acids from propylene or isobutylene by the vapor phase oxidation of propylene or isobutylene with molecular oxygen at a temperature of about 200.degree. C. to 600.degree. C. in the presence of a catalyst, the improvement comprising using as the catalyst a catalyst of the formula
- A.sub.a B.sub.b Fe.sub.c Bi.sub.d M.sub.e Mo.sub.12 O.sub.x
- wherein
- A is alkali metal, thallium, silver or mixtures thereof,
- B is Ni and/or Co, and
- M is Ge+W, and further
- wherein
- .ltoreq. a.ltoreq.0.5, 0.1.ltoreq.b.ltoreq.20, 0.1.ltoreq.c.ltoreq.20, 0.1.ltoreq.d.ltoreq.20 and 0.01.ltoreq.e.ltoreq.6, and
- x is a number such that the valence requirements for the other elements for oxygen are satisfied,
- and wherein the minimum amount of each element in M is 1 atom percent based on the number of atoms in component M.
- 2. The process of claim 1 wherein A is K, Rb and/or Cs and wherein a is greater than 0.
