Claims
- 1. A catalyst adapted for use in the synthesis of ammonia from ammonia synthesis gas, wherein the catalyst comprises ruthenium on a boron nitride support, wherein the catalyst has been promoted by being impregnated with a metallic salt of a metal selected from the group consisting of alkali metals, alkaline earth metals, and rare earth metals.
- 2. The catalyst of claim 1, wherein the support is formed to have a surface area of greater than about 25 m2/g.
- 3. The catalyst of claim 1, wherein the ruthenium is impregnated onto the support.
- 4. The catalyst of claim 1, wherein the metal is Cesium.
- 5. The catalyst of claim 1, wherein the metal is Barium.
- 6. An ammonia synthesis catalyst consisting of ruthenium on a boron nitride support.
- 7. A method comprising synthesizing ammonia from ammonia synthesis gas in the presence of a catalyst, wherein the catalyst consists of ruthenium on a boron nitride support.
