Claims
- 1. A process for the preparation of maleimide containing compounds comprising heating, in the absence of any solvent, N-(hydroxyphenyl)maleamic acid at a temperature ranging from about 150.degree. to about 250.degree. C. in the presence of an acid catalyst.
- 2. The process of claim 1 wherein from about 1 to about 10 weight percent of the catalyst is present based on the weight of the N-hydroxyphenyl)maleamic acid.
- 3. The process of claim 1 wherein the temperatures ranges from about 160.degree. to about 220.degree. C.
- 4. The process of claim 1 wherein said acid catalyst is selected from the group consisting of toluene sulfonic acid, sulfuric acid, hydrochloric acid or phosphoric acid.
- 5. The maleimide containing compounds which are the product of the process of claim 1.
- 6. The maleimide containing compounds which are the product of the process of claim 2.
- 7. The maleimide containing compounds which are the product of the process of claim 3.
- 8. The maleimide containing compounds which are the product of the process of claim 4.
