Claims
- 1. An optically active alpha-halogen-ketal having the formula: ##STR10## wherein Ar represents phenyl, diphenyl or naphthyl, unsubstituted or substituted by halogen, C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 alkyl, C.sub.3 -C.sub.6 cycloalkyl, benzyl, hydroxy, C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 alkoxy, C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 alkylthio, C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 haloalkyl, C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 haloalkoxy, phenoxy, thienylcarbonyl or benzoyl;
- R represents linear or branch C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 alkyl;
- R.sub.1 and R.sub.2, each independently, represent hydroxy, O.sup.- M.sup.+, OR.sub.3 or NR.sub.4 R.sub.5,
- R.sub.3 represents C.sub.1 -C.sub.24 alkyl, C.sub.3 -C.sub.6 cycloalkyl, phenyl or benzyl,
- M is the cation of an alkaline metal,
- R.sub.4 and R.sub.5, each independently, represent hydrogen, C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 alkyl, C.sub.5 -C.sub.6 cycloalkyl or --(CH.sub.2).sub.n --CH.sub.2 OH wherein n is 1, 2 or 3, or R.sub.4 and R.sub.5 together constitute a --(CH.sub.2).sub.m -- group wherein m is 4 or 5, or --CH.sub.2 --CH.sub.2 --R.sub.7 --CH.sub.2 --CH.sub.2 -- group wherein R.sub.7 is oxygen, NH or N(C.sub.1 -C.sub.4) alkyl, and
- X represents hydrogen, chlorine, bromine or iodine,
- the carbon atoms indicated by an asterisk having both (R) or (S) configuration.
- 2. The optically active alpha-halogen-ketal of claim 1 herein R.sub.1 and R.sub.2 are other than hydroxy.
- 3. The optically active alpha-halogen-ketal of claim 1 wherein Ar represents 4-isobutyl-phenyl, 3-phenoxy-phenyl, 2-fluoro-4-diphenyl, 4'-fluoro-4-diphenyl, 4-(2-thienylcarbonyl)phenyl, 6-methoxy-2-naphthyl, 5-chloro-6-methoxy-2-naphthyl, 4-chlorophenyl, 4-difluoromethoxy phenyl, 6-hydroxy-2-naphthyl or 5-bromo-6-hydroxy-2-naphthyl.
- 4. The optically active alpha-halogen-ketal of claim 1 having the formula: ##STR11## wherein, R.sub.1, R.sub.2 and X have the meanings given in claim 1 for formula (A),
- Y represents hydrogen or bromine and
- Z represents hydrogen, methyl or an alkaline metal.
- 5. 2-ethyl-2-(6-methoxy-2-naphthyl)-1,3-dioxolane-4(R),5(R)-dicarboxylic acid dimethyl ester.
