- 1. A process for the production of an alkylene glycol mono alkyl ester of an organic acid having the general formula selected from the group consisting of: ##STR7## which comprises the step of reacting an alkylene oxide having a general formula ##STR8## with an ester of an organic carboxylic acid having the general formula selected from the group consisting of ##STR9## in the presence of from 0.1 to 5 weight percent of a catalyst having the general formula selected from the group consisting of ##STR10## based on the weight of the ester of organic carboxylic acid, wherein R" is an unsubstituted hydrocarbon having 1 to 20 carbon atoms or a hydrogen atom;
- R.sup.3 is an unsubstituted hydrocarbon having 1 to 10 carbon atoms or a hydrogen atom;
- n, n.sub.1, n.sub.2, . . . n.sub.q are positive integer; m is 1 or 2;
- R'" is an unsubstituted hydrocarbon having 1 to 20 carbon atoms;
- R"" is a hydrocarbon selected from the group consisting of ##STR11## and R is the same or different unsubstituted hydrocarbon having 1 to 20 carbon atoms or a hydrogen atom.
