Claims
- 1. A process for producing an alternating copolymer of trans- 1,4-butadiene and propylene which comprises solution copolymerization of butadiene and propylene in the presence of a catalyst consisting of a vanadyl dialkoxy halide whose alkoxy groups are branched at the 2-position to the oxygen atom and AlR.sub.3 wherein R is alkyl having from 1 to 8 carbon atoms, the molar ratio of AlR.sub.3 to said vanadyl dialkoxy halide being from 2:1 to 15:1.
- 2. The process of claim 1 wherein the vanadyl dialkoxy halide is of the formula ##STR3## wherein each R.sub.1 independently is hydrogen or C.sub.1-C.sub.4 alkyl, each R.sub.2 independently is C.sub.1-C.sub.4 alkyl, each R.sub.3 independently is C.sub.1 -C.sub.8 alkyl and Hal is chlorine or bromine.
- 3. The process of claim 2 wherein each R.sub.1, R.sub.2 and R.sub.3 is methyl and Hal is chlorine.
