Claims
- 1. In a process for the production of an organic polyisocyanate based polymer in a closed mold which process comprises polymerizing a reaction mixture comprising at least one organic polyisocyanate with at least one organic polyol the improvement which comprises employing in said process an internal release agent which provides for a high number of molding cycles before requiring any mold surface treatment said release agent comprising an amino-polysiloxane having at least one group of the formula
- RNH--alkylene--O--
- bonded to a silicon atom of a polysiloxane, wherein R is selected from the group consisting of hydrogen, lower-alkyl, cycloalkyl, and ECHR"CHR'-wherein E is an electron with-drawing group and R' and R" are independently selected from the group consisting of hydrogen and methyl, said aminopolysiloxane being substantially free of any acid salt thereof.
- 2. A process according to claim 1 wherein said polyisocyanate based polymer is a polyurethane.
- 3. A process according to claim 1 wherein R in said amino-polysiloxane is hydrogen.
- 4. A process according to claim 1 wherein R in said amino-polysiloxane is ECHR"CHR'- wherein E is an electron withdrawing group and R' and R" are independently selected from the group consisting of hydrogen and methyl.
- 5. A process according to claim 1 wherein the alkylene diradical in said amino-polysiloxane is ethylene.
- 6. A process according to claim 1 wherein said release agent comprises an amino-polysiloxane having the formula
- RNH-alkylene--OSiR.sub.1 R.sub.2).sub.m O-alkylene-NHR
- wherein R is selected from the group consisting of hydrogen, lower-alkyl, cycloalkyl, and ECHR"CHR'- wherein E is an electron withdrawing group and R' and R" are independently selected from the group consisting of hydrogen and methyl, R.sub.1 and R.sub.2 are independently selected from the group consisting of methyl and phenyl, and m has an average value of from about 3 to about 100, said amino-polysiloxane being substantially free of any acid salt thereof.
- 7. A process according to claim 6 wherein the alkylene diradical in said amino-polysiloxane is ethylene, m has an average value of from about 10 to about 75, and both R.sub.1 and R.sub.2 are methyl.
- 8. A process according to claim 7 wherein R in said amino-polysiloxane is hydrogen.
- 9. A process according to claim 7 wherein R in said amino-polysiloxane is ECHR"CHR'- wherein E is an electron withdrawing group and R' and R" are independently selected from the group consisting of hydrogen and methyl.
- 10. In a process for the production of a polyurethane elastomer molding by the reaction injection molding of a reactant mixture comprising an organic polyisocyanate, at least one organic polyol and a difunctional extender the improvement which comprises including in said mixture a mold release agent which provides for a high number of molding cycles before requiring any mold surface treatment said release agent comprising an amino-polysiloxane having the formula
- RNH--alkylene--OSiR.sub.1 R.sub.2).sub.m O-alkylene--NHR
- wherein R is selected from the group consisting of hydrogen, lower-alkyl, cycloalkyl, and ECHR"CHR'-wherein E is an electron withdrawing group and R' and R" are independently selected from the group consisting of hydrogen and methyl, R.sub.1 and R.sub.2 are independently selected from the group consisting of methyl and phenyl, and m has an average value of from about 3 to about 100, said amino-polysiloxane being substantially free of any acid salt thereof.
- 11. A process according to claim 10 wherein the alkylene diradical in said amino-polysiloxane is ethylene, m has an average value of from about 10 to about 75, and both R.sub.1 and R.sub.2 are methyl.
- 12. A process according to claim 11 wherein said polyurethane elastomer reactants employed in combination with said amino-polysiloxane comprise:
- A. an organic polyisocyanate;
- B. an organic polyol having a MW from about 1500 to about 12,000 and a functionality of from about 2 to about 4;
- C. a difunctional extender; and
- D. a polyurethane catalyst,
- wherein the equivalent proportions of said polyol (B) to said extender (C) is within the range of about 1:4 to about 1:40 and the ratio of isocyanate equivalents of (A) to the total active hydrogen equivalents of said (B) and said (C) is from about 0.95 to about 1.5.
- 13. A process in accordance with claim 12 wherein said polyisocyanate is a liquefied carbodiimide-containing methylenebis(phenyl isocyanate) having an isocyanate equivalent weight of from about 130 to about 180, said difunctional extender is ethylene glycol, the average value of m in said amino-polysiloxane is from about 25 to about 55, the equivalent proportions of polyol (B) to ethylene glycol is from about 1:10 to about 1:20, and the ratio of isocyanate equivalents of (A) to the total active hydrogen equivalents of (B) and ethylene glycol is from about 1.00 to about 1.10.
- 14. A process in accordance with claim 13 wherein R in said amino-polysiloxane is hydrogen.
- 15. A process in accordance with claim 13 wherein R in said amino-polysiloxane is .beta.-cyanoethyl.
- 16. A process in accordance with claim 13 wherein R in said amino-polysiloxane is .beta.-carbomethoxyethyl.
