Claims
- 1. A process for enhancing the volatilization and separation of antimony from an antimony bearing material which does not contain arsenic comprising heating the antimony bearing material at an elevated temperature in an atmosphere containing arsenic to form a fume.
- 2. The process of claim 1 wherein arsenic is added to the antimony bearing material instead of adding arsenic to the atmosphere the material is heated in.
- 3. The process of claim 1 wherein the elevated temperature is about 200.degree. to 1550.degree. C.
- 4. The process of claim 2 wherein the elevated temperature is about 200.degree. to 1550.degree. C.
- 5. A process for separating arsenic from antimony comprising:
- (a) heating an arsenic-antimony containing material at a temperature of about 200.degree. to 1550.degree. C. to produce a fume containing arsenic and antimony oxides;
- (b) contacting the fumed mixture of the arsenic and antimony with a greater than 1% oxygen by volume containing gas at a temperature of about 200.degree. to 1550.degree. C. for a sufficient time to form antimony and arsenic compounds having different boiling points; and
- (c) separating the arsenic from the antimony.
