Claims
- 1. A process for preparing a magnesium amide consisting of reacting magnesium with a primary or secondary aliphatic amine in the presence of hydrogen having a pressure of about 130 kg/cm.sup.2 or greater at ambient temperature, the reaction being carried out at a temperature greater than or equal to about 50.degree. C.
- 2. A process for preparing a magnesium amide as claimed in claim 1, wherein the reaction is carried out in the presence of an activator wherein the activator is chosen from the metals of the first three groups of the Periodic Table, their hydrides or alkyl derivatives or mixed hydrides thereof, the activator being added to the reaction mixture in a quantity equal to or less than 5 molar % of the reacted amine.
- 3. A process for preparing a magnesium amide as claimed in claim 1 wherein the reaction is carried out in the presence of a solvent chosen from hydrocarbons or ethers.
