Claims
- 1. A process for increasing the fluorine content of an aromatic ring selected from the group consisting of a benzene ring, a pyridine ring, a benzene ring substituted with from 1 to 3 inert substituents, and a pyridine ring substituted with from 1 to 3 inert substituents, comprising:
- (a) contacting the aromatic ring with a metal fluoride composition comprising cupric fluoride at a temperature above 250.degree. C. sufficient to transfer F from cupric fluoride to the aromatic ring, thereby chemically reducing the metal fluoride composition;
- (b) oxidizing the reduced metal fluoride composition from (a) in the presence of HF to regenerate a metal fluoride composition comprising cupric fluoride; and
- (c) employing regenerated metal fluoride composition of (b) in (a).
