- 1. A process for the synthesis of compounds of formula I:

[0002] The present invention relates to processes for the preparation of cyclopenta[b][1,4]diazepino[6,7,1-hi]indoles and intermediates and derivatives thereof, which are serotonin 5-hydroxytryptamine 2C (5HT2C) receptor agonists useful for the treatment and prevention of disorders such as obsessive-compulsive disorder, depression, anxiety, schizophrenia, migraine, sleep disorders, eating disorders, obesity, epilepsy, and spinal cord injury.
