Claims
- 1. The process of producing a zirconium oxide wear resistant coating on a zirconium alloy surface comprising treating said alloy in a molten salt bath heated to a temperature of between 550.degree. and 800.degree. C. containing small amounts of sodium carbonate.
- 2. The process of claim 1 wherein the molten salt bath is selected from the group consisting of molten sodium cyanide, molten sodium chloride and mixtures of molten sodium chloride and potassium chloride.
- 3. The process of claim 2 wherein the molten salt is a mixture of potassium chloride and sodium chloride in equimolar amounts.
- 4. The process of claim 3 wherein the sodium carbonate is present in the molten salt in an amount of 0.1-5% by weight.
- 5. The process of claim 1 wherein the sodium carbonate is present in the molten salt in an amount of 0.1-1.0% by weight.
- 6. The process of claim 5 wherein the molten salt bath is heated to a temperature of 800.degree. C.
