Claims
- 1. A process for manufacture of an organ prosthesis, comprising the steps of:
- (a) forming a support of a completely eliminable material selected from the group of wax, ceresin or a sol selected from the group consisting of gelose and gelatin in solution which, on cooling, forms a gel, in the shape of the organ prosthesis, said support being formed by molding the completely eliminable material in a removable mold whose surfaces are devoid of any rough or uneven areas and then releasing the molded completely eliminable material from said removable mold;
- (b) depositing on said support preformed in the shape of the organ prosthesis a sol selected from the group consisting of gelose and gelatin which, no cooling, forms a gel having a surface state approximately the same as the liquid-air interface of gelose or gelatin in solution at its surface not adjacent the support;
- (c) cooling said sol to form said gel;
- (d) depositing a hardenable flexible material compatible with body fluids and tissues on said gel;
- (e) hardening said hardenable flexible material, thereby forming said organ prosthesis of a hardened flexible material, said hardened flexible material having a surface state adjacent said gel that is devoid of roughness, whereby formation of concentrations and deposits, during use of the organ prosthesis, due to roughness is avoided; and
- (f) removing said organ prosthesis from said support; said removing including eliminating said gel and support from the organ prosthesis, whereby said gel aids in forming the surface state of hardened flexible material devoid of roughness and eliminating said gel and support acts to remove the organ prosthesis from the support.
- 2. A process for the manufacture of an organ prosthesis, comprising the steps of:
- (a) forming a support in the shape of the organ prosthesis of a completely eliminable gel formed from a sol constituted by gelose or gelatin in solution by molding a core of said gel in a removable mold in the shape of said organ prosthesis and removing said core from said removable mold to form said support;
- (b) heating said gel such that the gel has a surface state approximately the same as the liquid-air interface of gelose or gelatin in solution;
- (c) depositing a hardenable flexible material compatible with body fluids and tissues on said gel;
- (d) hardening said hardenable flexible material, thereby forming said organ prosthesis of a hardened flexible material, said hardened flexible material having a surface state that is devoid of roughness, whereby formation of concretions and deposits, during use of the organ prosthesis, due to roughness is avoided; and
- (e) removing said organ prosthesis from said support, said removing including eliminating said gel, whereby said gel aids in forming the surface state of hardened flexible material devoid of roughness and eliminating said gel removes the organ prosthesis from said support.
- 3. Process according to claim 1 or 2, wherein the hardenable flexible material is deposited on said gel by dipping the support into the hardenable flexible material.
- 4. Process according to claim 1, wherein the hardenable flexible material is a silicone elastomer.
- 5. Process according to claim 3, wherein the hardenable flexible material is a silicone elastomer.
- 6. Process according to claim 1 or 2, wherein the removable mold is made of a material selected from the group consisting of metal or plastics.
- 7. Process according to claim 1 or 2, wherein the support is eliminated from the organ prosthesis by melting and dissolution with a hot liquid.
- 8. Process according to claim 2, wherein said hardenable flexible material is a silicone elastomer.
- 9. Process according to claim 1 or 2, wherein the support is in the shape of a bladder, whereby a bladder prosthesis is formed.
- 10. Process according to claim 1 or 2, wherein the support is in the shape of an urethra, whereby a urethra prosthesis is formed.
- 11. Process according to claim 1 or 2, wherein the support is in the shape of a sphincter, whereby a sphincter prosthesis is formed.
- 12. Process according to claim 1 or 2, wherein the support is in the shape of a non-branched fluid-carrying vessel, whereby a vascular prosthesis is formed.
- 13. Process according to claim 1 or 2, wherein the support is in the shape of a branched fluid-carrying vessel, whereby a complex vascular prosthesis is formed.
- 14. Process according to claim 1 or 2, wherein the support is in the shape of a value, whereby a valvular prosthesis is formed.
- 15. Process according to claim 1 or 2, wherein the support is in the shape of a cardiac cavity, whereby a cardiac prosthesis is formed.
