Claims
- 1. An opaque sheet strip for circumscribing the periphery of a sign character having a plastic face, said sheet strip comprising: an elongate sheet metal strip having first and second side edges, at least one of said edges of said metal strip having a convolute fold wherein a first longitudinal area immediately adjacent said convoluted edge is folded back to contact a second longitudinal area immediately adjacent said first longitudinal area; an abraded band on said sheet metal strip adjacent said convolute fold; a plastic strip overlying said abraded band, said plastic strip having a width substantially greater than the thickness of said plastic face, said plastic strip extending a distance in the plane of said metal strip substantially greater than the thickness of said plastic face, and said plastic strip being suitable for bonding to said plastic face; and a layer of adhesive between said plastic strip and said abraded band for bonding said plastic strip to said abraded band adjacent said convoluted edge, the edge of said plastic strip adjacent said convoluted edge of said metal strip registered with respect to said metal strip to abut said convolute fold but not be mechanically gripped by said convolute fold.
- 2. The opaque strip of claim 1 and wherein said convoluted edge of said metal strip, which edge abuts but does not mechanically grip said plastic strip, extends angularly beyond that surface of said plastic strip which is remote from said layer of adhesive.
- 3. The opaque strip of claim 2 and including a first convolute extending angularly beyond that surface of said plastic strip which is remote from said layer of adhesive and a second convolute at a distance removed from said first convolute, said edge of said metal strip between said first and second convolute defining an obtuse angle.
- 4. The opaque strip of claim 1 and wherein both said edges have a convolute fold.
- 5. The opaque strip of claim 1 and wherein a closed cell urethane strip is secured along the other of said edges.
