Claims
- 1. An electronic calculator comprising:
- keyboard input means including a plurality of alphabetic, numeric, and arithmetic operator keys for entering an algebraic statement that includes arithmetic operators, constants, and variables into the calculator;
- memory means, coupled to said keyboard input means, for storing an algebraic statement that has been entered into the calculator;
- processing means, coupled to said keyboard input means and memory means, for processing an algebraic statement that has been entered into the calculator and stored in said memory means to calculate the arithmetic result of that algebraic statement; and
- output means, coupled to said processing means, for providing a visual indication of the calculated arithmetic result of an algebraic statement processed by said processing means;
- said processing means being operative for processing an algebraic statement that includes first and second variables that are not separated by any arithmetic operator as if said first and second variables had been separated by a multiplication operator.
- 2. An electronic calculator as in claim 1 wherein:
- said keyboard input means includes an execute control key for initiating processing by said processing means of an algebraic statement stored in said memory means;
- said output means comprises alphameric display means for visually displaying an algebraic statement as it is being entered into the calculator; and
- said processing means includes logic means for causing said alphameric display means to display an algebraic statement entered into the calculator and stored in said memory means prior to processing of that algebraic statement by said processing means, said logic means being responsive to actuation of said execute control key for causing said processing means to process that displayed algebraic statement and for causing said alphameric display means to visually display the calculated arithmetic result of that algebraic statement.
- 3. An electronic calculator as in claim 1 wherein said processing means is operative for processing an algebraic statement that includes a third variable and an adjacent constant that are not separated by any arithmetic operator as if said third variable and adjacent constant had been separated by a multiplication operator.
