Claims
- 1. A projection lens system, comprising:
an illumination subsystem comprising
a light source, and a lightguide adapted to direct illumination light from the light source; and a projection lens adapted to receive the illumination light from the lightguide and to direct image light derived from the illumination light.
- 2. The projection lens system of claim 1, wherein the lightguide comprises a tapered light pipe.
- 3. The projection lens systems of claim 1, wherein the lightguide is adapted to direct the illumination light by total internal reflection.
- 4. The projection lens system of claim 1, wherein the lightguide is disposed between the light source and the projection lens.
- 5. The projection lens system of claim 1, wherein the lightguide homogenizes the illumination light.
- 6. The projection lens system of claim 1, wherein the lightguide provides the illumination light as substantially telecentric light.
- 7. The projection lens system of claim 1, further comprising a lens adapted to receive the illumination light from the light source.
- 8. The projection lens system of claim 7, wherein the lens is applied to the lightguide with an adhesive.
- 9. The projection lens system of claim 7, wherein a light filter is disposed between the lens and the lightguide.
- 10. The projection lens system of claim 7, wherein the lightguide is pressed between the lens and the light source with no adhesive.
- 11. The projection lens system of claim 7, wherein the lens is mounted in such a manner as to support the lightguide against the light source.
- 12. The projection lens system of claim 1, wherein the lightguide comprises a compound parabolic concentrator.
- 13. The projection lens system of claim 12, further comprising a funnel adapted to accept the illumination light for entry into the compound parabolic concentrator, wherein an angle defined by the funnel determines the cone angle of the illumination light through the compound parabolic concentrator.
- 14. The projection lens system of claim 12, wherein the lightguide and the lens are mounted without adhesive.
- 15. The projection lens system of claim 12, wherein the lightguide is beveled at its contact with the lens.
