Claims
- 1. A projector device comprising:
- first, second and third auxiliary lenses;
- a first dichroic mirror for combining rays of light emerging from the first auxiliary lens with rays of light emerging from the second auxiliary lens;
- a color combining planar mirror for receiving and deflecting rays of light emerging from the third auxiliary lens;
- a second dichroic mirror for combining rays of light emerging from the first dichroic mirror with rays of light emerging from the color combining planar mirror; and
- an assembly of lenses through which rays of light emerging from the second dichroic mirror are transmitted, said assembly of lenses comprising a first lens group having a negative power, a second lens group having a negative power and a third lens group having a positive power, all arranged along the optical axis of the assembly in the foregoing order from a side of the assembly optically remote from said second dichroic mirror, an air space being left between the first and second lens groups and an air space being left between the second and third lens groups, each or said air spaces having a length along said optical axis greater than the entire thickness of the second lens group along said optical axis.
- 2. The projector device as claimed in claim 1, and further comprising a planar mirror disposed within said assembly of lenses.
- 3. The projector device as claimed in claim 1, and further comprising a casing accommodating therein said assembly of lenses, said first to third auxiliary lenses, said first and said second dichroic mirrors and said color combining planar mirror.
- 4. The projector device as claimed in claim 1, wherein said first to third auxiliary lenses have their own optical axes all lying in a common plane.
- 5. A projection display apparatus comprising:
- a light source for radiating rays of light including three primary color components;
- color separating means for separating the light from the light source into the three primary color components;
- first, second and third light valves each positioned in the apparatus to receive a respective one of the primary color components from the color separating means and operable to form an optical image having an optical characteristic varying as a function of a video signal;
- color combining means for combining rays of light emerging, respectively, from the light valves to provide a composite image of light;
- a screen; and
- a projection lens assembly for receiving the composite image of light from the color combining means and for projecting the composite image of light onto said screen, said projection lens assembly including a first lens group having a negative power, a second lens group having a negative power and a third lens group having a positive power, all arranged along the optical axis of the assembly in the foregoing order from one side of said screen, an air space being left between the first and second lens groups and an air space being left between the second and third lens groups, each of said air spaces having a length along said optical axis greater than the entire thickness of the second lens group along said optical axis.
- 6. The apparatus as claimed in claim 5, and further comprising a planar mirror disposed between the first and second lens groups or between the second and third lens groups.
- 7. The apparatus as claimed in claim 5, wherein said screen is light transmissive, and further comprising a cabinet equipped with the light transmissive screen at a front thereof, said cabinet accommodating therein said light source, said color separating means, said light valves, said color combining means and said projection lens assembly.
- 8. The apparatus as claimed in claim 7, and further comprising a planar mirror disposed between the first and second lens groups or between the second and third lens groups, and one or two planar mirrors disposed on an optical path of the apparatus extending from the projection lens assembly to the screen.
- 9. A projection display apparatus comprising:
- a light source for radiating rays of light including three primary color components;
- color separating means for separating the light from the light source into three primary color components;
- first, second and third light valves each positioned in the apparatus to receive a respective one of the primary color components from the color separating means and operable to form an optical image having an optical characteristic varying as a function of a video signal;
- a screen;
- a projector device for receiving the light from the light valves and for projecting the optical images, formed on the respective light valves, onto said screen, said projector device including:
- first, second and third auxiliary lenses;
- a first dichroic mirror for combining rays of light emerging from the first auxiliary lens with rays of light emerging from the second auxiliary lens;
- a color combining planar mirror for receiving and deflecting rays of light emerging from the third auxiliary lens;
- a second dichroic mirror for combining rays of light emerging from the first dichroic mirror with rays of light emerging from the color combining planar mirror; and
- an assembly of lenses through which rays of light emerging from the second dichroic mirror are transmitted, the assembly of lenses comprising a first lens group having a negative power, a second lens group having a negative power and a third lens group having a positive power, all arranged along the optical axis of the assembly in the foregoing order from a side of the assembly optically remote from said second dichroic mirror, an air space being left between the first and second lens groups and an air space being left between the second and third lens groups, each of said air spaces having a length along said optical axis greater than the entire thickness of the second lens group along said optical axis.
- 10. The projection display apparatus as claimed in claim 9, and further comprising a planar mirror disposed within said assembly of lenses.
- 11. The projection display apparatus as claimed in claim 10, wherein said first lens group has an optical axis lying perpendicular to a plane containing both an optical axis of the light source and an optical axis of the third lens group.
- 12. The projection display apparatus as claimed in claim 10, wherein said screen is light transmissive, and further comprising a cabinet equipped with the light transmissive screen at a front thereof, said cabinet accommodating therein said light source, said color separating means, said light valves, and said projector device.
- 13. The projection display apparatus as claimed in claim 12, wherein said first lens group has an optical axis lying perpendicular to a plane containing both an optical axis of the light source and an optical axis of the third lens group.
- 14. The projection display apparatus as claimed in claim 12, and further comprising a planar mirror disposed on an optical path of the apparatus extending from the projector device to the screen, and wherein said first lens group has an optical axis extending parallel to a horizontal direction of an image plane of the screen, wherein the optical axis of the third lens group and an optical axis of the screen are parallel to each other, and wherein the optical axis of the first lens group is perpendicular to the optical axes of the third lens group and the screen.
- 15. The projection display apparatus as claimed in claim 14, wherein said first lens group has an optical axis lying perpendicular to a plane containing both an optical axis of the light source and an optical axis of the third lens group.
- 16. The projection display apparatus as claimed in claim 9, wherein said screen is light transmissive, and further comprising a cabinet equipped with the light transmissive screen at a front thereof, said cabinet accommodating therein said light source, said color separating means, said light valves, and said projector device.
- 17. The projection display apparatus as claimed in claim 16, and further comprising a one or two planar mirrors disposed on an optical path of the apparatus extending from the projector device to the screen.
