Claims
- 1. A projection lens system for enlarging and displaying on a screen an original image displayed on a fluorescent face of a projection tube, said lens system comprising a plurality of lens elements, among which a lens element disposed nearest said projection tube is a concave meniscus lens having a concave lens surface facing said screen, wherein:said concave meniscus lens is connected to said projection tube by a liquid coolant for cooling said projection tube; and said concave meniscus lens has profile such that refractive power at a marginal area adjacent a periphery of said concave meniscus lens is less than the refractive power at an area adjacent optical axis of said projection lens system.
- 2. A projection lens system according to claim 1, wherein said plurality of lens elements includes at least a first aberration correction lens disposed closest to said screen and a convex lens having a strongest refractive power among said lenses other than said concave meniscus lens, being disposed between said first aberration correction lens and said concave meniscus lens.
- 3. A projection lens system according to claim 2, further comprising a second aberration correction lens disposed between said convex lens and said concave meniscus lens.
- 4. A projection lens system according to claim 3, wherein said second aberration correction lens has a lens surface on a side facing said projection tube, which is in said area adjacent said optical axis, and is concave in said marginal area.
- 5. A projection lens system according to claim 4, wherein said second aberration correction lens is disposed prior to and adjacent said concave meniscus lens.
- 6. A projection lens system for enlarging and displaying on a screen an original image displayed on a fluorescent face of a projection tube, said lens system comprising a plurality of lens elements, among which a lens element disposed nearest said projection tube is a concave meniscus lens whose concave surface faces said screen, wherein:said concave meniscus lens is connected to said projection tube by a liquid coolant for cooling said projection tube; refractive power of said concave meniscus lens increases along a radially outward direction from an optical axis of said projection lens system to a point between said optical axis and a marginal area adjacent a periphery of said concave meniscus lens, and decreases outwardly from said point to said marginal area; and refractive power in said marginal area of said concave meniscus lens is less than refractive power adjacent said optical axis.
- 7. A projection image display apparatus having a screen, a projection tube and a projection lens system for enlarging and displaying on the screen an original image displayed on a fluorescent face of the projection tube, wherein:said projection lens system comprises a plurality of lens elements, among which a lens element disposed nearest said projection tube is a concave meniscus lens having a concave lens surface facing the screen: said concave meniscus lens has a profile such that refractive power at a neighborhood of a marginal area adjacent a periphery of said concave meniscus lens is less than refractive power adjacent an optical axis of said projection lens system; and a liquid coolant for cooling said projection tube is filled between said concave meniscus lens and the fluorescent face of said projection tube; whereby a negative lens is formed by said concave meniscus lens, said fluorescent face of said projection tube and said liquid coolant.
