Claims
- 1. A projection type display apparatus comprising:
- a first optical system arranged so as to correspond to a red light component, said first optical system comprising a first polarized light separating optical system for emitting a first polarized light component based on the red light component incident thereon, a first light valve for modulating the first polarized light component emitted from said first polarized light separating optical system, and a first analyzing optical system for analyzing the first polarized light component modulated by said first light valve;
- a second optical system arranged so as to correspond to a green light component, said second optical system comprising a second polarized light separating optical system for emitting a second polarized light component based on the green light component incident thereon, a second light valve for modulating the second polarized light component emitted from said second polarized light separating optical system, and a second analyzing optical system for analyzing the second polarized light component modulated by said second light valve; and
- a third optical system arranged so as to correspond to a blue light component, said third optical system comprising a third polarized light separating optical system for emitting a third polarized light component based on the blue light component incident thereon, a third light valve for modulating the third polarized light component emitted from said third polarized light separating optical system, and a third analyzing optical system for analyzing the third polarized light component modulated by said third light valve;
- wherein each of said first to third polarized light analyzing separating optical systems includes a respective optical member made of an optically transparent material in which a wavelength where an absolute value of a photoelastic constant becomes a minimum value within a wavelength range of at least one of the blue light component and the green light component.
- 2. A projection type display apparatus according to claim 1, wherein said first, second, and third polarized light separating optical systems are respectively constituted by first, second, and third polarizing beam splitters each including said respective optical member.
- 3. A projection type display apparatus according to claim 1, wherein said first, second, and third analyzing optical systems are respectively constituted by first, second, and third polarizing beam splitters each including said respective optical member.
- 4. A projection type display apparatus according to claim 1, wherein said first polarized light separating optical system and said first analyzing optical systems are commonly constituted by a first polarizing beam splitter including said respective optical member, said second polarized light separating optical system and said second analyzing optical systems are commonly constituted by a second polarizing beam splitter including said respective optical member, and said third polarized light separating optical system and said third analyzing optical systems are commonly constituted by a third polarizing beam splitter including said respective optical member.
- 5. A projection type display apparatus according to claim 1, further comprising:
- a color separating optical system for separating light from a light source into red, green, and blue light components and guiding thus separated light components respectively to said first to third polarized light separating optical systems;
- a color combining optical system for combining, in terms of color, light components respectively analyzed by said first to third analyzing optical systems; and
- a projection optical system for projecting a light beam resulting from color combination effected by said color combining optical system.
- 6. A projection type display apparatus according to claim 5, wherein said color combining optical system includes an optical member made of an optically transparent material in which a wavelength where an absolute value of a photoelastic constant becomes a minimum level exists in a wavelength range of at least one of the blue light component and the green light component.
- 7. A projection type display apparatus comprising:
- a first optical system arranged so as to correspond to a red light component, said first optical system comprising a first polarized light separating optical system for emitting a first polarized light component based on the red light component incident thereon, a first light valve for modulating the first polarized light component emitted from said first polarized separating optical system, and a first analyzing optical system for analyzing the first polarized light component modulated by said first light valve;
- a second optical system arranged so as to correspond to a green light component, said second optical system comprising a second polarized light separating optical system for emitting a second polarized light component based on the green light component incident thereon, a second light valve for modulating the second polarized light component emitted from said second polarized separating optical system, and a second analyzing optical system for analyzing the second polarized light component modulated by said second light valve;
- a third optical system arranged so as to correspond to a blue light component, said third optical system comprising a third polarized light separating optical system for emitting a third polarized light component based on the blue light component incident thereon, a third light valve for modulating the third polarized light component emitted from said third polarized separating optical system, and a third analyzing optical system for analyzing the third polarized light component modulated by said third light valve;
- wherein each of said first to third polarized light analyzing optical systems includes a respective optical member made of an optically transparent material in which, among a first value which is a mean value of absolute values of photoelastic constants with respect to individual wavelengths in a wavelength range of the red light component, a second value which is a mean value of absolute values of photoelastic constants with respect to individual wavelengths in a wavelength range of the green light component, and a third value which is a mean value of absolute values of photoelastic constants with respect to individual wavelengths in a wavelength range of the blue light component, one of said second and third value is the smallest.
- 8. A projection type display apparatus according to claim 7, wherein said first, second, and third polarized light separating optical systems are respectively constituted by first, second, and third polarizing beam splitters each including said respective optical member.
- 9. A projection type display apparatus according to claim 7, wherein said first, second, and third analyzing optical systems are respectively constituted by first, second, and third polarizing beam splitters each including said respective optical member.
- 10. A projection type display apparatus according to claim 7, wherein said first polarized light separating optical system and said first analyzing optical systems are commonly constituted by a first polarizing beam splitter including said respective optical member, said second polarized light separating optical system and said second analyzing optical systems are commonly constituted by a second polarizing beam splitter including said respective optical member, and said third polarized light separating optical system and said third analyzing optical systems are commonly constituted by a third polarizing beam splitter including said respective optical member.
- 11. A projection type display apparatus according to claim 7, further comprising:
- a color separating optical system for separating light from a light source into red, green, and blue light components and guiding thus separated light components respectively to said first to third polarized light separating optical systems;
- a color combining optical system for combining, in terms of color, light components respectively analyzed by said first to third analyzing optical systems; and
- a projection optical system for projecting a light beam resulting from color combination effected by said color combining optical system.
- 12. A projection type display apparatus according to claim 11, wherein said color combining optical system includes an optical member made of an optically transparent material in which, among said first, second, and third values, one of said second and third value is the smallest.
- 13. A projection type display apparatus comprising:
- a polarized light separating optical system for separating light from a light source into first and second polarized light components different from each other;
- a color separating optical system for separating one of said first and second polarized light components into red, green, and blue light components;
- a first optical system arranged so as to correspond to the red light component, said first optical system comprising a first light valve for modulating the red light component resulting from color separation effected by said color separating optical system and a first analyzing optical system for analyzing the red light component modulated by said first light valve;
- a second optical system arranged so as to correspond to the green light component, said second optical system comprising a second light valve for modulating the green light component resulting from color separation effected by said color separating optical system and a second analyzing optical system for analyzing the green light component modulated by said second light valve; and
- a third optical system arranged so as to correspond to the blue light component, said third optical system comprising a third light valve for modulating the blue light component resulting from color separation effected by said color separating optical system and a third analyzing optical system for analyzing the blue light component modulated by said third light valve;
- wherein said polarized light separating optical system is constituted by a first polarizing beam splitter, and
- wherein said first polarizing beam splitter includes an optical member made of an optically transparent material in which a wavelength where an absolute value of a photoelastic constant becomes a minimum level exists in a wavelength range of at least one of the blue light component and the green light component.
- 14. A projection type display apparatus according to claim 13, wherein said first, second, and third analyzing optical systems are respectively constituted by second, third, and fourth polarizing beam splitters, and
- wherein each of said second to fourth polarizing beam splitters includes a respective optical member made of an optically transparent material in which a wavelength where an absolute value of a photoelastic constant becomes a minimum level exists in a wavelength range of at least one of the blue light component and the green light component.
- 15. A projection type display apparatus according to claim 13, further comprising:
- a color combining optical system for combining, in terms of color, light components respectively analyzed by said first to third analyzing optical systems; and
- a projection optical system for projecting a light beam resulting from color combination effected by said color combining optical system.
- 16. A projection type display apparatus according to claim 15, wherein said color combining optical system includes an optical member made of an optically transparent material in which a wavelength where an absolute value of a photoelastic constant becomes a minimum level exists in a wavelength range of at least one of the blue light component and the green light component.
- 17. A projection type display apparatus comprising:
- a polarized light separating optical system for separating light from a light source into first and second polarized light components different from each other;
- a color separating optical system for separating one of said first and second polarized light components into red, green, and blue light components;
- a first optical system arranged so as to correspond to the red light component, said first optical system comprising a first light valve for modulating the red light component resulting from color separation effected by said color separating optical system and a first analyzing optical system for analyzing the red light component modulated by said first light valve;
- a second optical system arranged so as to correspond to the green light component, said second optical system comprising a second light valve for modulating the green light component resulting from color separation effected by said color separating optical system and a second analyzing optical system for analyzing the green light component modulated by said second light valve; and
- a third optical system arranged so as to correspond to the blue light component, said third optical system comprising a third light valve for modulating the blue light component resulting from color separation effected by said color separating optical system and a third analyzing optical system for analyzing the blue light component modulated by said third light valve;
- wherein said first, second, and third analyzing optical systems are respectively constituted by first, second, and third polarizing beam splitters, and
- wherein each of said first to third polarizing beam splitters includes a respective optical member made of an optically transparent material in which a wavelength where an absolute value of a photoelastic constant becomes a minimum value within a wavelength range of at least one of the blue light component and the green light component.
- 18. A projection type display apparatus according to claim 17, wherein said polarized light separating optical system is constituted by a fourth polarizing beam splitter, and
- wherein said fourth polarizing beam splitter includes an optical member made of an optically transparent material in which a wavelength where an absolute value of a photoelastic constant becomes a minimum level exists in a wavelength range of at least one of the blue light component and the green light component.
- 19. A projection type display apparatus according to claim 17, further comprising:
- a color combining optical system for combining, in terms of color, light components respectively analyzed by said first to third analyzing optical systems; and
- a projection optical system for projecting a light beam resulting from color combination effected by said color combining optical system.
- 20. A projection type display apparatus according to claim 19, wherein said color combining optical system includes an optical member made of an optically transparent material in which a wavelength where an absolute value of a photoelastic constant becomes a minimum level exists in a wavelength range of at least one of the blue light component and the green light component.
- 21. A projection type display apparatus comprising:
- a polarized light separating optical system for separating light from a light source into first and second polarized light components different from each other;
- a color separating optical system for separating one of said first and second polarized light components into red, green, and blue light components;
- a first optical system arranged so as to correspond to the red light component, said first optical system comprising a first light valve for modulating the red light component resulting from color separation effected by said color separating optical system and a first analyzing optical system for analyzing the red light component modulated by said first light valve;
- a second optical system arranged so as to correspond to the green light component, said second optical system comprising a second light valve for modulating the green light component resulting from color separation effected by said color separating optical system and a second analyzing optical system for analyzing the green light component modulated by said second light valve; and
- a third optical system arranged so as to correspond to the blue light component, said third optical system comprising a third light valve for modulating the blue light component resulting from color separation effected by said color separating optical system and a third analyzing optical system for analyzing the blue light component modulated by said third light valve;
- wherein said first polarized light separating optical system is constituted by a first polarizing beam splitter, and
- wherein said first polarizing beam splitter includes an optical member made of an optically transparent material in which, among a first value which is a mean value of absolute values of photoelastic constants with respect to individual wavelengths in a wavelength range of the red light component, a second value which is a mean value of absolute values of photoelastic constants with respect to individual wavelengths in a wavelength range of the green light component, and a third value which is a mean value of absolute values of photoelastic constants with respect to individual wavelengths in a wavelength range of the blue light component, one of said second and third value is the smallest.
- 22. A projection type display apparatus according to claim 21, wherein said first, second, and third analyzing optical systems are respectively constituted by second, third, and fourth polarizing beam splitters, and
- wherein each of said second to fourth polarizing beam splitters includes a respective optical member made of an optically transparent material in which, among said first, second, and third values, one of said second and third value is the smallest.
- 23. A projection type display apparatus according to claim 21, further comprising:
- a color combining optical system for combining, in terms of color, light components respectively analyzed by said first to third analyzing optical systems; and
- a projection optical system for projecting a light beam resulting from color combination effected by said color combining optical system.
- 24. A projection type display apparatus according to claim 23, wherein said color combining optical system includes an optical member made of an optically transparent material in which, among said first, second, and third values, one of said second and third value is the smallest.
- 25. A projection type display apparatus comprising:
- a polarized light separating optical system for separating light from a light source into first and second polarized light components different from each other;
- a color separating optical system for separating one of said first and second polarized light components into red, green, and blue light components;
- a first optical system arranged so as to correspond to the red light component, said first optical system comprising a first light valve for modulating the red light component resulting from color separation effected by said color separating optical system and a first analyzing optical system for analyzing the red light component modulated by said first light valve;
- a second optical system arranged so as to correspond to the green light component, said second optical system comprising a second light valve for modulating the green light component resulting from color separation effected by said color separating optical system and a second analyzing optical system for analyzing the green light component modulated by said second light valve; and
- a third optical system arranged so as to correspond to the blue light component, said third optical system comprising a third light valve for modulating the blue light component resulting from color separation effected by said color separating optical system and a third analyzing optical system for analyzing the blue light component modulated by said third light valve;
- wherein said first, second, and third analyzing optical systems are respectively constituted by first, second, and third polarizing beam splitters, and
- wherein each of said first to third polarizing beam splitters includes a respective optical member made of an optically transparent material in which, among a first value which is a mean value of absolute values of photoelastic constants with respect to individual wavelengths in a wavelength range of the red light component, a second value which is a mean value of absolute values of photoelastic constants with respect to individual wavelengths in a wavelength range of the green light component, and a third value which is a mean value of absolute values of photoelastic constants with respect to individual wavelengths in a wavelength range of the blue light component, one of said second and third value is the smallest.
- 26. A projection type display apparatus according to claim 25, wherein said polarized light separating optical system is constituted by a fourth polarized beam splitter, and
- wherein said fourth polarizing beam splitter includes an optical member made of an optically transparent material in which, among said first, second, and third values, one of said second and third value is the smallest.
- 27. A projection type display apparatus according to claim 25, further comprising:
- a color combining optical system for combining, in terms of color, light components respectively analyzed by said first to third analyzing optical systems; and
- a projection optical system for projecting a light beam resulting from color combination effected by said color combining optical system.
- 28. A projection type display apparatus according to claim 27, wherein said color combining optical system includes an optical member made of an optically transparent material in which, among said first, second, and third values, one of said second and third value is the smallest.
- 29. A projection type display apparatus comprising:
- a first polarizing beam splitter provided so as to analyze a red light component from a light valve for red light;
- a second polarizing beam splitter provided so as to analyze a green light component from a light valve for green light;
- a third polarizing beam splitter provided so as to analyze a blue light component from a light valve for blue light;
- a color combining optical system provided so as to combine said light components respectively analyzed by said first to third polarizing beam splitters; and
- a projection optical system provided so as to project a combined light from said color combining optical system to a screen,
- wherein each of said first to third polarizing beam splitters includes a respective optical member made of an optically transparent material in which a wavelength where an absolute value of a photoelastic constant becomes a minimum value is within a wavelength range of at least one of the blue light component and the green light component.
- 30. A projection type display apparatus comprising:
- a first polarizing beam splitter provided so as to analyze a red light component from a light valve for red light;
- a second polarizing beam splitter provided so as to analyze a green light component from a light valve for green light;
- a third polarizing beam splitter provided so as to analyze a blue light component from a light valve for blue light;
- a color combining optical system provided so as to combine said light components respectively analyzed by said first to third polarizing beam splitters; and
- a projection optical system provided so as to project a combined light from said color combining optical system to a screen,
- wherein each of said first to third polarizing beam splitters includes a respective optical member made of an optically transparent material in which, among a first value which is a mean value of absolute values of photoelastic constants with respect to individual wavelengths in a wavelength range of the red light component, a second value which is a mean value of absolute values of photoelastic constants with respect to individual wavelengths in a wavelength range of the green light component, and a third value which is a mean value of absolute values of photoelastic constants with respect to individual wavelengths in a wavelength range of the blue light component, one of said second and third values is the smallest.
- 31. A projection type display apparatus comprising:
- a first polarizing beam splitter provided so as to analyze a red light component from a light valve for red light;
- a second polarizing beam splitter provided so as to analyze a green light component from a light valve for green light;
- a third polarizing beam splitter provided so as to analyze a blue light component from a light valve for blue light; and
- a projection optical system provided so as to project said light components respectively analyzed by said first to third polarized beam splitters to a screen,
- wherein each of said first to third polarizing beam splitters includes a respective optical member made of an optically transparent material in which a wavelength where an absolute value of a photoelastic constant becomes a minimum value within a wavelength range of at least one of the blue light component and the green light component.
- 32. A projection type display apparatus comprising:
- a first polarizing beam splitter provided so as to analyze a red light component from a light valve for red light;
- a second polarizing beam splitter provided so as to analyze a green light component from a light valve for green light;
- a third polarizing beam splitter provided so as to analyze a blue light component from a light valve for blue light; and
- a projection optical system provided so as to project said light components respectively analyzed by said first to third polarized beam splitters to a screen,
- wherein each of said first to third polarizing beam splitters includes a respective optical member made of an optically transparent material in which, among a first value which is a mean value of absolute values of photoelastic constants with respect to individual wavelengths in a wavelength range of the red light component, a second value which is a mean value of absolute values of photoelastic constants with respect to individual wavelengths in a wavelength range of the green light component, and a third value which is a mean value of absolute values of photoelastic constants with respect to individual wavelengths in a wavelength range of the blue light component, one of said second and third values is the smallest.
