Claims
- 1. Apparatus for proportioning and mixing two substantially incompressible fluids comprising an hydraulic circuit including a cylinder, a piston reciprocable in said cylinder and dividing the cylinder into two chambers, means reducing the effective volume swept by said piston in one chamber to be lesser than that swept by said piston in the other chamber, first conduit means constituting an inlet for a first fluid to said one chamber and connectable to a source of said first fluid, second conduit means connecting said one chamber to said other chamber, third conduit means connected to said other chamber and constituting an outlet for mixed fluids, fourth conduit means constituting an inlet for a second fluid and connectable between a source of a second fluid and said second conduit means to cause said second fluid to be added to said first fluid in said second conduit means in an amount directly related to the differences in effective volumes swept by said piston, and interconnected valve means cooperating in said conduit means to permit controlled reciprocation of said piston in said cylinder, said source of said second fluid being different from said source of said first fluid and said valve means constituting means isolating said source of second fluid from both said chambers as said one chamber expands and connecting said source of said first fluid to said one chamber as said one chamber expands.
- 2. Apparatus as claimed in claim 1 wherein said means reducing the effective volume swept by said piston in said one chamber comprises a piston rod extending from the piston and through said one chamber.
- 3. Apparatus as claimed in claim 1 wherein said source of said first fluid is pressurized, said first fluid constituting a motive fluid for driving said piston in a direction to expand said one chamber.
- 4. Apparatus as claimed in claim 3 wherein said source of said first fluid includes a pump.
- 5. Apparatus as claimed in claim 4 wherein said source of said first fluid includes a regulating valve constituting means establishing the velocity of said piston movement in a direction to expand said one chamber and wherein said valve is disposed between said pump and the inlet to said one chamber.
- 6. Apparatus as claimed in claim 3 wherein said source of said first fluid includes a regulating valve constituting means establishing the velocity of said piston movement in a direction to expand said one chamber.
- 7. Apparatus as claimed in claim 3 wherein resilient means are provided to move said piston in a direction to expand said other chamber.
- 8. Apparatus as claimed in claim 7 wherein a regulating valve is provided to constitute means establishing the velocity of said piston movement in a direction to expand said other chamber.
- 9. Apparatus as claimed in claim 8 wherein said regulating valve is disposed in said second conduit means.
- 10. Apparatus as claimed in claim 1 wherein a flow meter is disposed in one of said conduit means said flow meter being graduated to indicate the flows of both said fluids.
- 11. Apparatus as claimed in claim 10 wherein said flow meter is disposed in one of said second and third conduit means.
- 12. Apparatus as claimed in claim 10 wherein said second and said third conduit means include a common connection to said other chamber, said common connection including valve means establishing communication alternatively between said second conduit and said other chamber and between said third conduit and said other chamber.
- 13. Apparatus as claimed in claim 10 comprising counter means counting the number of times said piston reciprocates within said cylinder.
- 14. Apparatus as claimed in claim 1 wherein said first and second conduit means include a common connection to said one chamber, said common connection including valve means establishing communication alternatively between said first conduit and said one chamber and said second conduit and said one chamber.
- 15. Apparatus as claimed in claim 1 wherein said second and said third conduit means include a common connection to said other chamber, said common connection including valve means establishing communication alternatively between said second conduit and said other chamber and between said third conduit and said other chamber.
- 16. Apparatus as claimed in claim 1 including two axially aligned cylinders, each with a piston and each divided into two chambers, said pistons being interconnected by a piston rod constituting means reducing the effective volume swept by said pistons within the chambers in which said rod is disposed to be lesser than that of the other chambers, the lesser volume chamber of one cylinder expanding as the greater volume chamber of the other cylinder expands.
- 17. Apparatus as claimed in claim 16 wherein said source of said first fluid is pressurized, said first fluid constituting a motive fluid for driving said pistons.
- 18. Apparatus as claimed in claim 17 wherein said source of said first fluid includes a pump.
- 19. Apparatus as claimed in claim 18 wherein said source of said first fluid includes a regulating valve constituting means establishing the velocity of piston movement.
- 20. Apparatus as claimed in claim 17 wherein said source of said first fluid includes a regulating valve constituting means establishing the velocity at which said pistons move.
- 21. Apparatus as claimed in claim 16 wherein a flow meter is disposed in one of said conduit means, said flow meter being graduated to indicate flows of both said fluids.
- 22. Apparatus as claimed in claim 21 comprising counter means counting the number of times said pistons reciprocate within said cylinders.
- 23. Apparatus as claimed in claim 16 comprising counter means counting the number of times said pistons reciprocate within said cylinders.
- 24. Apparatus as claimed in claim 1 comprising counter means counting the number of times said piston reciprocates within said cylinder.
- 25. Apparatus as claimed in claim 1 wherein pump means is provided operable to render the pressure in said third conduit means lesser than that in said first conduit means, said pump means constituting means moving said piston in a direction to expand said one chamber.
- 26. Apparatus as claimed in claim 25 wherein said pump means is disposed in said first conduit means.
- 27. Apparatus for proportioning and mixing two fluids comprising an hydraulic circuit including a cylinder, a piston reciprocable in said cylinder and dividing the cylinder into two chambers, means reducing the effective volume swept by said piston in one chamber to be lesser than that swept by said piston in the other chamber, first conduit means constituting an inlet for a first fluid to said one chamber and connectable to a source of said first fluid, second conduit means connecting said one chamber to said other chamber, third conduit means connected to said other chamber and constituting an outlet for mixed fluids, fourth conduit means constituting an inlet for a second fluid and connectable between a source of a second fluid and said circuit to cause said second fluid to be added to the circuit in an amount directly related to the difference in effective volumes swept by said pistons and interconnected valve means cooperating in said conduit means to permit controlled reciprocation of said piston in said cylinder, wherein said inlet for said second fluid communicates directly with said one chamber.
- 28. Apparatus for proportioning and mixing two liquids comprising an hydraulic circuit including a receptable, movable partition means within said receptacle dividing that receptacle into two chambers, means for producing reciprocation of said partition means within said receptacle alternately to expand and contract said chambers, a first liquid inlet to one of said chambers, conduit means connecting said one chamber and the other of said chambers, a second liquid inlet extending from a source of second liquid different than said first liquid to said conduit means and the liquid outlet from said other chamber, valve means associated with said first liquid inlet, said outlet and said conduit means and operable to permit controlled reciprocation of said partition means, and means effective to render the volume of first liquid delivered to said one chamber lesser than that volume required to fix the other chamber upon expansion of said other chamber whereby second liquid is induced into said other chamber through said conduit means in a volume equal to the difference in said aforementioned volumes, said valve means being effective to isolate said chambers from the source of second liquid as said one chamber expands and to connect said first liquid inlet to said one chamber as said one chamber expands
- 29. Apparatus as claimed in claim 28 wherein said partition means comprises a flexible diaphragm element and said means rendering the volume of first liquid delivered to said one chamber lesser than that volume required to fill the other chamber comprises rod means secured to said diaphragm element and projecting to the exterior of said one chamber.
- 30. Apparatus as claimed in claim 29 wherein rod means is secured to said diaphragm element and projects through said other chamber to the exterior of the receptacle, said rod means in said one chamber being of greater cross sectional area than said rod means in said other chamber.
- 31. Apparatus as claimed in claim 28 including means effective to adjust the difference in volumes of said chambers.
- 32. Apparatus as claimed in claim 31 wherein said means for adjusting the difference in volume of said chambers comprises a piston and cylinder element communicating with one of said chambers and adjustable stop means effective to limit the movement of said piston within said cylinder.
- 33. Apparatus as claimed in claim 28 wherein there are provided two such receptacles each with movable partition means dividing each receptacle into two chambers and wherein said means rendering the volume of first fluid delivered to said one chamber lesser than that volume required to fill the other chamber comprises rod means secured to each said partition means and means connecting said partition means to cause said one chamber of one receptacle to expand as said one chamber of the other receptacle contracts.
- 34. Apparatus as claimed in claim 33 having a yoke comprising a pair of connected idler rod means, each of said idler rod means being disposed for sliding movement in an associated one of said second chambers and having distal end portions for abutting engagement with said partition means, and connecting means joining said idler rod means, said connecting means being adjustable to change the spacing between said distal end portions of said idler rod means.
- 35. Apparatus as claimed in claim 28 wherein said partition means comprises a flexible diaphragm element in each receptable.
- 36. Liquid proportioning and mixing apparatus comprising a liquid filled system including a first receiving chamber receiving a predetermined volume of a primary liquid, a second receiving chamber, means connecting said chambers, means transporting liquid from said first chamber to said second chamber through said connecting means, inlet means for a secondary liquid communicating with said connecting means and means rendering the volume of said second chamber greater than said predetermined volume of primary liquid, whereby secondary liquid is delivered through said connecting means to fill, with said primary liquid, said second chamber.
- 37. Apparatus as claimed in claim 36 wherein said first receiving chamber and said second receiving chamber are defined within a common receptacle, said chambers being separated by movable partition means.
- 38. Apparatus as claimed in claim 37 wherein said movable partition means comprises a flexible diaphragm element.
- 39. Apparatus as claimed in claim 37 wherein said receptacle comprises a cylinder and said partition means comprises a piston.
- 40. Apparatus as claimed in claim 37 wherein said means rendering the volume of said second chamber greater than said predetermined volume of said primary liquid comprises rod means secured to said partition means and projecting through said first receiving chamber and to the exterior thereof.
- 41. Apparatus as claimed in claim 40 wherein there is provided second rod means slidably disposed in said other chamber and extending from the interior to the exterior thereof and adjustable stop means limiting movement of second rod means towards said one chamber, said second rod means and said stop means being constituted as means effective to adjust the difference in volumes swept by said partition means in said chambers.
- 42. Apparatus as claimed in claim 36 wherein said means rendering the volume of said second chamber greater than said predetermined volume of primary liquid is adjustable.
- 43. Apparatus as claimed in claim 36 wherein a fluid connection to said first of said chambers is made, said connection leading to a piston/cylinder element and adjustable stop means effective to limit movement of said piston within said cylinder.
- 44. Liquid proportioning and mixing apparatus comprising a source of a primary liquid and a filled system including a first receiving chamber receiving a predetermined volume of a primary liquid from said source, a second receiving chamber, means connecting said chambers, means transporting liquid from said first chamber to said second chamber through said connecting means, a source of secondary liquid, connecting means extending between said secondary source and said means connecting said chambers and means rendering the volume of said second chamber greater than said predetermined volume of primary liquid, whereby secondary liquid is delivered through said connecting means and said means connecting said chambers, to fill, with said primary liquid, said second chamber.
