Claims
- 1. A propylene oxide reaction product and a salt thereof obtained from an addition product of
- (a) an at least trihydric aliphatic alcohol containing 3 to 10 carbon atoms, and
- (b) 1,2-propylene oxide, by reaction with
- (c) an aliphatic dicarboxylic acid containing 2 to 10 carbon atoms, an aromatic dicarboxilic acid containing 8 to 12 carbon atoms, or an anhydride thereof,
- (d) an aliphatic diol with a molecular weight of at most 2000, and
- (f) a fatty acid containing 12 to 22 carbon atoms.
- 2. A propylene oxide reaction product according to claim 1, wherein a saturated fatty acid containing 16 to 20 carbon atoms is used as component (f).
- 3. A propylene oxide reaction product according to claim 2, wherein stearic acid is used as component (f).
- 4. A process for the manufacture of a propylene oxide reaction product of a polyol, propylene oxide and a dicarboxylic acid, wherein an addition product of
- (a) at least trihydric aliphatic alcohol containing 3 to 10 carbon atoms and
- (b) 1,2-propylene oxide, is reacted with
- (c) an aliphatic dicarboxylic acid of 2 to 10 carbon atoms, an aromatic dicarboxylic acid of 8 to 12 carbon atoms or an anhydride thereof,
- (d) an aliphatic diol with a molecular weight of at most 2000, and
- (f) a fatty acid containing 12 to 22 carbon atoms, in the presence of an acid catalyst.
- 5. A process according to claim 4, which comprises the use of 1 to 2 moles of component (a), 4 to 120 moles of component (b), 1 to 7 moles of component (c), 1 to 4 moles of component (d), and 1 to 4 moles of component (f).
- 6. A process according to claim 4, wherein a saturated fatty acid containing 16 to 20 atoms is used as component (f).
- 7. A process according to claim 6, wherein palmitic or stearic acid is used as component (f).
- 8. A process according to claim 5 which comprises the use of 2 to 7 moles of component (c).
- 9. A process according to claim 4 which comprises reacting
- (a) glycerol or pentaerythritol,
- (b) propylene oxide,
- (c) maleic anhydride,
- (d) polyethylene glycol with an average molecular weight of 200 to 500, and
- (f) stearic acid.
- 10. A process of claim 4 wherein the components are reacted in an inert organic solvent at a temperature in the range of 60.degree. to 120.degree. C.
- 11. A process of claim 4, comprising the further step of converting the propylene oxide reaction product to a salt by the addition of base.
