Claims
- 1. Articles comprising joint prostheses, prothesis shafts, wear-parts for prosthesis shafts, hip and knee joints, valve parts or pump cylinders formed of titanium and titanium alloys and having a surface conversion layer consisting of an integral continuous uniformly distributed, hard, wear-resistant and pure titanium nitride layer of between 0.5 and 10 .mu.m having a hardness of at least 2000 hV.sub.0.05.
- 2. Articles as claimed in claim 1, wherein the pure titanium nitride layer is between 2 and 4 .mu.m.
- 3. Articles as claimed in claim 1, wherein the surface is finished to high surface fineness using a chemo-mechanical polishing method.
- 4. Articles as claimed in claim 2, wherein the surface is finished to high surface fineness using a chemo-mechanical polishing method.
