Claims
- 1. A connector for joining a first tubular vessel to a second tubular vessel, comprising:
a connector body with a first connector body portion first tubular connector portion for engaging a first end of said first tubular vessel and a second connector body portion for engaging a first end of said second tubular; an extension projecting outward from said connector body; a first locking strap for circumscribes said first connector body portion and said extension thereby preventing movement of said first tubular vessel relative to said connector; and a second locking strap for circumscribing said second connector body portion thereby preventing movement of said second tubular vessel portion relative to said connector.
- 2. The connector of claim 1 wherein a first radial array of detents extends outward from an exterior surface of said first connector body portion and a second radial array of detents extends outward from an exterior surface of said second connector body portion.
- 3. The connector of claim 2 wherein detents of said first radial array of detents outwardly terminate at an apex and said detents are effective to pierce and retain a wall of said first tubular vessel.
- 4. The connector of claim 2 wherein said extension has a length effective for grasping to facilitate manipulation of said connector body.
- 5. The connector of claim 4 wherein said extension is integral with said connector body.
- 6. The connector of claim 5 wherein said extension is unitary with said connector body.
- 7. The connector of claim 4 wherein said extension is removable from said first tubular connector.
- 8. The connector of claim 4 wherein said second tubular connector is a mirror image of said connector body.
- 9. The connector of claim 4 wherein said first locking strap is locked by engaging a first end thereof into a second end thereof.
- 10. The connector of claim 9 wherein said locking is non-permanent and said first end thereof may be disengaged from said second end thereof.
- 11. The connector of claim 10 wherein said first end thereof includes a projection that engages a channel formed in a second end thereof.
- 12. The connector of claim 9 wherein said first tubular vessel and said second tubular vessel are both vascular prostheses.
- 13. The connector of claim 10 wherein said first locking strap is removable from said connector when unlocked.
- 14. A connector for joining a first tubular vessel to a second tubular vessel, comprising:
a tubular connector body terminating at first and second rims thereof and having an interior bore and an exterior surface; a first end of said first tubular vessel for extending through said interior bore, being everted about said first rim and engaging said exterior surface of said connector body; a first end of said second tubular vessel for extending over said first rim and over said first end of said first tubular vessel and engaging said exterior surface of said connector body; an extension projecting outward from said connector body; and a locking strap for circumscribing said connector body, said first end of said first tubular vessel, and said first end of said second tubular vessel thereby preventing movement of said first tubular vessel and said second tubular vessel relative to said connector.
- 15. The connector of claim 14 wherein a radial array of detents extends outward from said exterior surface of connector body.
- 16. The connector of claim 15 wherein said detents outwardly terminate at an apex and are effective to pierce and retain both a wall of said first tubular vessel and a wall of said second tubular vessel.
- 17. The connector if claim 16 wherein said extension has a length effective for grasping to facilitate manipulation of said connector body.
- 18. The connector of claim 17 wherein said extension is integral with said connector body.
- 19. The connector of claim 18 wherein said extension is unitary with said connector body.
- 20. The connector of claim 17 wherein said extension is removable from said connector body.
- 21. The connector of claim 17 wherein said locking strap is locked by engaging a first end thereof into a second end thereof.
- 22. The connector of claim 21 wherein said locking is non-permanent and said first end thereof may be disengaged from said second end thereof.
- 23. The connector of claim 22 wherein said first end thereof includes a projection that engages a channel formed in a second end thereof.
- 24. The connector of claim 22 wherein said first tubular vessel and said second tubular vessel are both vascular prostheses.
- 25. The connector of claim 22 wherein said first locking strap is removable from said connector when unlocked.
- 26. A kit for vascular reconstructive surgery comprising:
a first vascular prosthesis having opposing first and second ends; a second vascular prosthesis having opposing first and second ends; a connector body for affixing to said first end of said first vascular prosthesis and to said first end of said second vascular prosthesis; and at least a first locking strap effective to prevent movement of said first vascular prosthesis and said second vascular prosthesis relative to each other and to said connector body.
- 27. The kit of claim 26 wherein a radial array of detents extend outward from an exterior surface of a first connector body portion.
- 28. The kit of claim 27 wherein detents of said radial array of detents outwardly terminate at an apex and said detents are effective to pierce and retain a wall of said first tubular vessel.
- 29. The kit of claim 27 wherein said extension has a length effective for grasping to facilitate manipulation of said first tubular connector.
- 30. The kit of claim 29 wherein said extension is integral with said connector body.
- 31. The kit of claim 30 wherein said extension is unitary with said connector body.
- 32. The kit of claim 29 wherein said extension is removable from said connector body.
- 33. The kit of claim 29 wherein a second connector body portion is a mirror image of said first connector body portion.
- 34. The kit of claim 29 wherein said first locking strap has a first end with a projection for reversibly engaging a channel formed in an opposing second end of said locking straps.
- 35. The kit of claim 34 wherein said locking straps are removable from said connector when unlocked.
- 36. The kit of claim 26 wherein said connector is affixed to one of said first vascular prosthesis or said second vascular prosthesis.
- 37. A method for forming a vascular graft comprising the steps of:
(a). providing a first tubular prosthetic vessel having first and second opposing ends, providing a second tubular prosthetic vessel having opposing first and second ends, and providing a tubular connector having opposing first and second ends; (b). fixedly inserting said first end of said tubular connector into said first end of first tubular prosthetic vessel; (c). fixedly inserting said second end of said tubular connector portion into said first end of said second tubular prosthetic vessel; and (d) reversibly locking said first tubular prosthetic vessel and said second tubular prosthetic vessel to prevent relative motion between all of said first tubular prosthetic vessel, said second tubular prosthetic vessel and said tubular connector.
- 38. The method of claim 37 including manipulating said first tubular connector portion with an outwardly projecting handle.
- 39. The method of claim 37 including the step of attaching at least one of said second end of said first tubular prosthetic vessel and said second end of said second tubular prosthetic vessel to a bodily vessel prior to step (b).
- 40. The method of claim 39 wherein said step of attaching said second end of said first tubular prosthetic vessel includes stapling.
- 41. A method for forming a vascular graft comprising the steps of:
(a). providing a first tubular prosthetic vessel having first and second opposing ends, a second tubular prosthetic vessel having opposing first and second ends, and a tubular connector portion having first and second opposing ends; (b). passing said first tubular prosthetic vessel through an interior bore of said tubular connector from said first end thereof to said second end thereof and everting said first tubular vessel about said second end of said tubular connector; (c). fixedly attaching both said first prosthetic vessel and said second prosthetic vessel to an exterior surface of said connector portion; and (e) reversibly locking said first tubular prosthetic vessel and said second tubular prosthetic vessel to prevent relative motion between all of said first tubular prosthetic vessel, said second tubular prosthetic vessel, and said second tubular connector portion
- 42. The method of claim 41 including affixing said first prosthetic vessel and said second prosthetic vessel to said connector vessel by piercing with a radial array of detents extending outwardly from said connector body.
- 43. The method of claim 41 including manipulating said first tubular connector portion with an outwardly projecting handle.
- 44. The method of claim 40 including the step of attaching at least one of said second end of said first tubular prosthetic vessel and said second end of said second tubular prosthetic vessel to a bodily vessel prior to step (b).
- 45. The method of claim 44 wherein said step of attaching said second end of said first tubular prosthetic vessel includes stapling.
