The present application relates generally to devices for use during sexual intercourse, and, more particularly, to devices and methods for protection from bodily fluids during sexual intercourse.
There are times when physical intimacy, such as sexual intercourse, between persons is desired, and yet one or more of the persons may be experiencing “spotting” or other undesirable bodily discharges. Depending upon the individuals, the circumstances may be inconvenient or too embarrassing to participate at that time. Consequently, the desires for intimacy go unsatisfied.
Also, there are times when physical intimacy, such as sexual intercourse (“sex”), between persons is desired and it may not be convenient or appropriate to remove one or more of the persons' clothing (e.g., “quickies”), which would probably result in soiled or stained clothing. Clothing removal may also be inappropriate when, for example, sex is desired but no skin contact between sexual partners is permissible for legal, religious or disease prevention reasons. Innumerable examples of such situations exist. Although finding privacy during “the big moment” may not be an issue, the results shown on the persons' clothing and the need for proper cleanup, would probably tell the story. Accordingly, there exists a need for devices and methods to protect one's person from bodily fluids associated with physical intimacy, such as sexual intercourse.
A protection device can include a first, barrier layer of moisture-proof material and a second, absorbing layer of absorbent material with respective openings therein for receiving a penis of a sexual partner during intercourse. The barrier layer is provided adjacent to the male sexual partner, and the absorbing layer material is provided adjacent to the female sexual partner. The absorbing material may absorb bodily fluids from intercourse while the barrier layer prevents such bodily fluids from reaching the male sexual partner, for example, to protect clothing or prevent bodily contact. The barrier and absorbing layers may have the same size in plan view. Alternatively, the barrier layer may be larger than the absorbing layer to provide an increased region of protection from bodily fluids. The protection device may also be provided with a condom, separately or coupled to the barrier and/or absorbing layers, to enhance protection from bodily fluids.
In embodiments, a protection device for use by a sexual partner during intercourse can include first and second layers. The first layer can have a first opening therein. The first layer can be formed of a flexible, moisture-proof material. The second layer can be disposed over the first layer and can be attached thereto. The second layer can have a second opening therein. A border of the second opening can enclose the first opening in plan view. The second layer can be formed of an absorbent material. The first layer can be constructed such that the first opening stretches to accommodate a penis inserted therein and to secure the protection device to said penis.
In embodiments, a protection method for use during sexual intercourse can include inserting a penis through a first opening in a barrier layer of a protection device. The barrier layer can be formed of a flexible, moisture-proof material such that the first opening stretches to accommodate the inserted penis and to secure the protection device thereto. The protection device can also include an absorbing layer disposed over the barrier layer and attached thereto. The absorbing layer can have a second opening therein. A border of the second opening can enclose the first opening in plan view. The absorbing layer can be formed of an absorbent material. The barrier layer can be disposed adjacent to a male sexual partner while the absorbing layer can be disposed adjacent to a female sexual partner during sexual intercourse, thereby protecting portions of the male sexual partner from bodily fluids.
Objects and advantages of embodiments of the disclosed subject matter will become apparent from the following description when considered in conjunction with the accompanying drawings.
Embodiments will hereinafter be described with reference to the accompanying drawings. Unless explicitly noted, the figures have not been drawn to scale. Where applicable, some features have not been illustrated to assist in the illustration and description of underlying features. Throughout the figures, like reference numerals denote like elements.
As shown in
The protection device is arranged such that during sexual intercourse the absorbing layer 110 is adjacent to the female sexual partner and the barrier layer 120 is adjacent to the male sexual partner. Thus, bodily fluids produced by or incidental to sexual intercourse are absorbed by the absorbing layer 110 or at least prevented from reaching the male sexual partner by virtue of the barrier layer 120. Accordingly, the barrier layer 120 may have an extended size/shape to provide a larger area 195 of protection, as shown in
As an example of the functionality of the protection device, a physical intimacy scenario with a sexual position of a woman sitting on top of a man will be used. The man will sit or lie on his back and place the protection device in his lap with the absorbent material side up. The penis is inserted up through the two holes with the flexible material expanding to fit comfortably snug around the penis and pushed down to the base of the penis to prevent moisture from passing the flexible material. If a version of the protection device that does not include a condom is used, and a condom is desired, it can be added at this point. Either way, the woman can now sit on top of the man and begin sexual activities. During the sexual activity, the absorbent material can absorb all of the moisture. At the conclusion of the activity, the protection device is lifted off of the penis, folded over and placed back into a disposable pouch for proper disposal.
If safeguarding against HIV and other diseases that are transmitted via body fluids is a major concern during sexual activities, then a version of protection device that includes a condom may be utilized. This configuration can completely isolate the penis area from contact with any fluids or moisture. Considering the slippage and movement of regular condoms during sexual acts, using a condom by itself or adding a separate condom to the protection device may not provide as much protection against disease, moisture and body fluids as that provided by a version of the protection device that includes a permanently attached condom. Some of the problems related to the conventional condom during sexual activities have been skin irritation, leakage as it begins to slip, breakage as pressure is applied to the front end and/or having it slip completely off, thereby exposing the parties to various body fluids which could lead to disease and/or pregnancy.
The protection device 100 can be provided with a condom 160, for example, as shown in
The condom 160 may be placed over the penis prior to or after insertion of the penis through the openings of the protection device 100. Alternatively, the condom 160 can be attached to one of the barrier and absorbing layers of the protection device 100, for example, at a region 165 of the barrier layer 120 peripheral to opening 140, as shown in
The condom 160 may comprise a single layer of material, for example, latex. Alternatively, the condom 160 may comprise multiple layers 185 having different properties, as shown in
For example, an outer layer of the condom may be formed from a substantially hydrophobic material (e.g., a moisture-repelling yarn such as Lycra or Spandex) while the inner layer of the condom may be formed from a substantially hydrophilic material (e.g., a moisture-attracting yarn such as a soft molded non-latex polymer). Portions of the condom 160 and/or barrier layer 120 can be provided with stretch bands (e.g., by welding) to assist in keeping the protection device in place during intercourse. For example, portions 175 of condom 160 in
Referring to
First layer 210 has a hole 230 going through the center of the first layer. Hole 230 may be, for example, 1.5 inches in diameter. Second layer 220 has a hole 240 going through the center of the second layer. Hole 240 is substantially smaller than hole 230 and may be, for example, 0.5 inches in diameter. Hole 230 is designed to comfortably expand or stretch to fit snugly around the perimeter of a penis of a person using protection device 200. Securing members 150 such as ties (not shown) or squares of a hook-and-loop material (e.g., Velcro®) may be included around the perimeter of second layer 220 to secure the protection device to a user's clothing and thus prevent movement of the protection device during physical intimacy such as sexual intercourse.
A separate condom (not shown) may be used in conjunction with protection device 200, to offer additional protection against contact with bodily fluids. Alternatively, a condom 260 can be permanently attached to the periphery of second hole 240 in second layer 220 and impermeably sealed over second hole 240, as shown in
As noted above, the condom can be a single layer or multiple layers. For example, as shown in
There are some religion-based and/or ethnicity-based sexual activities that require a man to only contact a woman with his penis during a specific sexual encounter and not have any other body contact. To accommodate the various religious and ethnic requirements related to these types of sexual activities, the protection device such as that shown in
Thus, it may desirable to increase the size of the barrier layer 120 to increase the area protected, while the absorbing layer 110 may be maintained at a constant maximum size (e.g., 12 inches by 12 inches). For example, the barrier layer 120 may have planar dimensions from 12 inches by 12 inches up to 48 inches by 84 inches. In such configurations (or in other configurations disclosed herein), one or more securing mechanisms can be provided to hold the protection device in place during intercourse. For example, the securing mechanism can include one or more ties 470 arranged around the perimeter of the barrier layer 120. Ties 470 may serve to secure the protection device to a user's clothing. Alternatively or additionally, the securing mechanism can include one or more of hook-and-loop fasteners, straps, clips, ties, magnetic fasteners, buttons, and adhesive fasteners.
There may be times when sexual activity is spontaneous and/or it is not convenient or appropriate to carry a protection device around or pull a protection device out of a drawer or purse. To accommodate this situation, a version of the protection device such as that shown in
A man can, for example, wear this protection device with the moisture-proof flexible material facing in against his skin and the absorbent material facing out. This version can also be turned inside out and worn by a woman with the absorbent material facing in against the woman's skin and the moisture-proof flexible material facing out. This version of the protection device can be utilized with a separate condom in a manner similar to that described above.
The protection device can be incorporated into an undergarment, such as underwear, as shown in
As shown in the enlarged inset of
For example, a version of the protection device such as that shown in
The protection device with integrated condom can be configured as a female condom, whereby the condom is inserted into the vagina of the sexual partner prior to insertion of the penis into the protection device. In such configurations, the initiation of intercourse may cause uncomfortable movement of the condom within the vagina. The condom may thus be provided with an anchor portion to secure an end of the condom distal from the layers of the protection device within the vagina prior to and during intercourse. For example, condom 160 can include an external anchor portion 550, as shown in
The absorbent material and/or the flexible material of the various versions of protection device can be formed in various colors including yellow, red, brown, dark brown or burgundy to minimize the contrast of the moisture collected and to reduce potential embarrassment to the users. The surfaces of the moisture-proof flexible material on the protection device can provide a place for a manufacturer's logo and/or advertisement, as well as other paid advertisements. The disposable resealing pouch (not shown) may also provide one or more surfaces that would be available for a manufacturer's logo and/or advertisement, as well as other paid advertisements. The protection device may also be packaged to include a condom with the versions that do not have a permanently attached condom (e.g., that shown in
Additional potential applications for the devices and methods described herein include so called “lap dances,” sexual contact, including but not limited to oral sex, anal sex, and vaginal sex, as well as other forms of physical intimacy that may be spontaneous and may not readily support the removal of the participants' clothing. Protection of one's person, especially clothing being worn during the physical intimacy, may be afforded by the devices and methods described herein.
