Pro Carpet B (Protective Carpet Binding)

[0011] Thermoglue fabric tape to protect and decorate the carpet edges and borders with a fuse system.

(A) BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION

[0012] Throughout these past twenty years of working in the carpet business field, I have found a strong need of a new and unique system to protect the edges of the carpet. It consists of a stitch free fabric tape with a special kind of adhesive (waterproof silicone) to be stuck by the heat of an iron. This will make the tape remain perfectly secured to the edge of the carpet.

[0013] This can be a unique substitute to all of those useless and very limited products that exist on the market. The ones out on the market are metal, plastic, and vinyl strips that are both dangerous and unattractive. In addition, you will need other accessories to place them. My new method does not need any complicated or heavy sewing machines. My idea is easy to work with and is designed to “Do it yourself” My idea does not involve the hassle of sending your carpet to be stitched at the factory.

[0014] Most finishing strips are not only unattractive but also hard and dangerous, particularly when children are playing on the carpet. “Pro Carpet B” on the other hand would provide a softer, flexible edge that would prevent injuries in the event that children, even adults lie or play on the carpet. In addition, “Pro Carpet B” is an original product concept designed to protect carpet edges against the possibilities of unraveling and deteriorating due to wear at exposed edges. “Pro Carpet B” has been designed to provide a better alternative to traditional carpet finishing products.

[0015] “Pro Carpet B” would consist of a thermoglue fabric binding tape made of cotton, polyester, jute, or any other similar material to tastefully match any kind of carpeting, color or pattern according to the client's desire. It could also be offered in different widths and lengths.

[0016] Only with this new product, Pro Carpet B, we will be able to make different forms, shapes, and sizes. It can be done for area rugs, runners, hallways, and stairways. The customer can pick the color of the tape to go with the carpet to make it match perfectly. This design can give the carpet an elegant and beautiful appearance. It can also be exposed to the market in either small or large quantities. It can go according to the customer's need, such as rolls of 15, 20, and 30 feet long. It can also be 2, 3 or more inches wide to satisfy the customer's desire.

[0017] I made them by hand and have tried them out myself. They work perfectly but Just needs to be manufactured in large quantities. There is a product (U.S. Pat. No. 4,054,698 called carpet binding tape Oct. 18, 1977), that may seem similar to my product but in reality is very different. It is made of semirigid plastic to be used on the doorways but it is seldom used.

(B.) SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION

[0018] Pro Carpet B would replace all different kinds of metals, that in each case we need to use different kinds of nails, for wood or concrete floor, all different kinds of existing vinyl strips that it needs to use a very strong glue, the binding machine to do the regular cloth binding edging, that in this case it is very expensive and it needs a qualified labor worker. Therefore my new system will minimize labor costs and prevents injuries that could be caused by the dangerous sharp ends of the metals.

[0019] The idea of my product is to be more elegant, durable, and even reusable to any metal, vinyl strips, or cloth binding edges.

[0020] It would be useful on hallways by spindles where a binding machine is impossible to use. It would be easier to handle and install on any kind of floor for any carpet installer, avoiding expensive costs of a binding machine and professional carpet binder.

[0021] Conventional products for finishing the edges of carpets have a number of drawbacks. For one, they are usually unattractive metal strips, which do nothing to enhance the appearance of the carpet or the room in which it is installed. Despite its simplicity and ease of use, Pro carpet B, would have a number of advantages over conventional carpet edge finishing products. My new concept would help to give the carpet a more finished look.

[0022] “Pro Carpet B” would be far more attractive and elegant looking as compared to regular metal strips and will be offered in various colors. This product will also be much safer than the metal strips. It would be pliable and soft with no sharp edges and would not have to be secured by nails. Thus, there would be no chance of injury for both children and adults.

(C.) DESCRIPTION OF THE VIEWS OF THE DRAWINGS

[0023] “Pro Carpet B” is going to be (something like scotch tape) a thermoglue fabric tape in several colors to match with the carpet. The binding tape can be made of polyester, cotton, or any similar fabric. It will be covered with a film of silicone adhesive that will be stuck to the carpet by an iron. This will make the tape to stick to the edge of the carpet giving it a perfect finish. “Pro Carpet B” is simple in design and would be relatively easy and inexpensive to be produced. It would fulfill the need for a new way to protect and finish carpet edges.

[0024] (1.) Binding with Support: This is designed to protect the edging of all kinds of carpets.

[0025] (2.) Single Binding: Besides protecting the edges, it will give a beautiful, decorative appearance. (Mostly for thin carpets)

[0026] (3.) Double Binding: This is similar to single binding but reinforced, turning twice.

(D.) DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION

[0027] (1.) Binding with Support: 1½ inches wide fabric tape that {fraction (1/2)} inch will cover the paper string that gives it the shape of a cigarette, this will join the edge of the carpet. The other 1 inch of the fabric tape will be covered with a coat of a waterproof adhesive (silicone) that will be melted by an iron. Then it will stick to the back of the carpet. This will avoid the carpet from fraying.

[0028] (2.) Single Binding: 3 inches wide fabric tape of any color or design according to the consumer's desire. One side of the fabric tape will be covered (something like scotch tape) by a film of adhesive that would be folded length wise. So one half (1½ inches wide) of the fabric tape will get stuck to the face of the carpet then the other half will be glued to the back side of the carpet by heat.

[0029] (3.) Double Binding (reinforced): 3 inch wide fabric tape to be folded 3 times. ⅓ (1 inch wide) of the fabric will be covered with a film of adhesive (silicone) that will be placed, lengthwise to the face of the carpet so it can stick with an iron. The other ⅓ (1 inch wide) of the fabric tape will be folded over (twice) to the previous strip of the fabric tape that is already stuck to the border of the carpet (face). So the other ⅓ (1 inch wide) of the fabric tape covered with another 1 inch film of adhesive will be folded to get stuck to the back side of the carpet by heat.

[0030] Pro Carpet B is going to be a unique fuse system to protect and decorate the carpet edges and borders with different colors and designs. This new product will be used everyday to cover all carpet needs. It can easily replace all kinds of attachments used to protect the carpet edges.

[0031] This particular system will provide a stitch-free binding tape for carpet edges that will consist in a particular kind of thermoglue fabric tape covered with a film of special adhesive that will get stuck to the edge and border of the carpet with the help of an iron. Besides protecting the edge of the carpet and also decorating the borders, this new and unique system adds an elegant, attractive look to the carpet regardless of its color or pattern. It would also eliminate the need of thresholds and borders, thus providing more decorating means of finishing a carpet installation Job.
