Claims
- 1. A hockey glove having a thumb member, the thumb member being padded and comprising a rigid articulating skeleton, the skeleton comprising at least two sections pivotably joined together, the sections adapted to be rotatable relative to each other to allow the skeleton to rotate between a closed position and an open position, and at least one section includes a stop adapted to prevent rotation in an open direction beyond the open position.
- 2. The hockey glove of claim 1, wherein a tip section is joined to a base section, and the stop comprises a notch formed in the base section.
- 3. The hockey glove of claim 2, wherein the base section has an extending member, and the extending member is overlapped by at least a portion of the tip section.
- 4. The hockey glove of claim 1, wherein the skeleton includes a base section, a tip section, and a middle section, and the base section is pivotally connected to the middle section and the middle section is pivotally connected to the tip section.
- 5. The hockey glove of claim 4, wherein the middle section includes a bend, and the skeleton is adapted to substantially conform to a natural relaxed position of a wearer's thumb.
- 6. The hockey glove of claim 4, wherein at least a portion of the middle section overlaps a portion of the base section and a portion of the tip section overlaps a portion of the middle section.
- 7. A hockey glove having a thumb member, the thumb member being padded and comprising a rigid articulating skeleton, the skeleton comprising at least two sections pivotably joined together, the sections adapted to be rotatable relative to each other to allow rotation between a closed position and an open position, the skeleton including locking means for preventing rotation of the sections in an open direction beyond the open position.
- 8. The hockey glove of claim 7, wherein a tip section is joined to a base section, and the locking means comprises a notch formed in the base section.
- 9. The hockey glove of claim 8, wherein the base section has an extending member, and the extending member is overlapped by at least a portion of the tip section.
- 10. The hockey glove of claim 7, wherein the locking means comprises a ridge formed on the base section.
- 11. A protective sports glove having a thumb member, the thumb member comprising a substantially rigid articulating skeleton comprising at least two thumb sections and a stop, the sections being rotatable relative to one another so that the skeleton is rotatable between a closed position and an open position, the stop adapted to prevent relative rotation of the sections in an open direction beyond the open position.
- 12. The glove of claim 11, wherein the sections partially overlap one another.
- 13. The glove of claim 11, wherein the sections are connected to one another at a connection portion, and the sections rotate about the connection portion.
- 14. The glove of claim 13, wherein the sections overlap one another at the connection portion.
- 15. The glove of claim 11, wherein the skeleton fits around a back and at least portions of two sides of the thumb.
- 16. The glove of claim 11, wherein at least one of the sections is bent or curved to approximate the shape of a relaxed thumb.
- 17. The glove of claim 11, wherein the stop is disposed on at least one of the sections.
- 18. The glove of claim 17, wherein the sections are configured so that portions of adjacent sections engage each other to stop rotation beyond the open position.
- 19. The glove of claim 11 additionally comprising a plurality of finger gussets adapted to accomodate the wearer's fingers, and at least one finger gusset is configured to accommodate more than one finger.
- 20. A pair of protective sports gloves comprising the glove of claim 11 and a second glove, each of the gloves comprising a palm and a protective back extending over the palm and having at least one segment adapted to provide padding for a wearer's hand disposed within the glove, wherein more padding is provided at or adjacent the back of the first glove than is provided at or adjacent the back of the second glove.
