Claims
- 1. A method for treating inflammation in a patient suffering from an inflammatory condition comprising the step of administering a therapeutically effective amount of a compound of the formula:
- 2. A method according to claim 1 wherein A and C are hydrogen, B is hydroxy, methoxy, —CO2Z, —O(CH2)mCO2Z, —SO3Z, —OPO3Z2; and Y is CN.
- 3. A method according to claim 1 wherein A and B are hydroxy, C is hydrogen and Y is —C(O)NHCH2C6H6.
- 4. A method according to claim 1 wherein A is hydrogen, B is —NO2, C is hydroxy and Y is —CN.
- 5. The method according to claim 2 wherein B is methoxy.
- 6. The method of claim 1 wherein said compound is administered in a dose range from 1 mg/day to 500 mg/day.
- 7. The method of claim 1 wherein said compound is administered orally, parenterally, transdermally or topically.
- 8. A pharmaceutical composition for treating inflammation in an individual comprising a pharmaceutically effective amount of a compound of the formula:
- 9. A method for treating an immunological disease in a patient afflicted with said disease comprising the step of administering a therapeutically effective amount of a compound of the formula:
- 10. The method according to claim 9 wherein said disease is multiple sclerosis.
- 11. The method according to claim 9 wherein A and C are hydrogen, B is methoxy and Y is CN.
- 12. A pharmaceutical composition for treatment of an immunological disease in an individual comprising a pharmaceutically effective amount of a compound of the formula:
- 13. A composition according to claim 12 wherein A and C are hydrogen, B is methoxy and Y is CN.
- 14. A method for treating diabetes comprising the step of administering a therapeutically effective amount of a compound of the formula:
- 15. A method according to claim 14 wherein A and C are hydrogen, B is hydroxy, methoxy, —CO2Z, —O(CH2)mCO2Z, —SO3Z, —OPO3Z2 and Y is CN.
- 16. A method according to claim 15 wherein B is methoxy.
- 17. A method according to claim 15 wherein B is —CO2Z.
- 18. A method according to claim 17 wherein Z is Na+.
- 19. A pharmaceutical composition for treating diabetes in an individual comprising a pharmaceutically effective amount of a compound of the formula:
- 20. A composition according to claim 19 wherein A and C are hydrogen, B is hydroxy, methoxy, —CO2Z, —O(CH2)mCO2Z, —SO3Z, —OPO3Z2 and Y is CN.
- 21. A composition according to claim 19 wherein B is methoxy.
- 22. A composition according to claim 19 wherein B is —CO2Z.
- 23. A composition according to claim 22 wherein Z is Na+.
- 24. A compound of the formula:
- 25. A compound according to claim 24 wherein A and C are hydrogen.
- 26. A compound according to claim 25 wherein B is —CO2Z.
- 27. A compound according to claim 25 wherein B is —OPO3Z2.
- 28. A compound according to claim 25 wherein B is —SO3Z.
- 29. A compound according to claim 25 wherein B is —O(CH2)mCO2Z.
- 30. A compound according to claim 25 wherein B is hydroxy.
- 31. A compound according to claim 26 wherein Z is Na+.
- 32. A compound according to claim 27 wherein Z is H.
- 33. A compound according to claim 28 wherein Z is Na+.
- 34. A compound according to claim 29 wherein m=1 and Z is Na+.
- 35. A compound according to claim 29 wherein m=1 and Z is ethyl.
