- 3. The isolated polypeptide of claim 1 wherein the polypeptide is not more than 1000 amino acid residues in length.
- 4. The isolated polypeptide of claim 1 wherein the polypeptide is from 423 to 448 amino acid residues in length.
- 5. The isolated polypeptide of claim 1 consisting of residues 3-425 of SEQ ID NO:2, residues 2-425 of SEQ ID NO:2, or residues 1-425 of SEQ ID NO:2.
- 6. The isolated polypeptide of claim 1, further comprising an affinity tag.
- 7. The isolated polypeptide of claim 6 wherein the affinity tag is maltose binding protein, polyhistidine, or Glu-Tyr-Met-Pro-Met-Glu (SEQ ID NO:4).
- 8. An expression vector comprising the following operably linked elements:
(a) a transcription promoter; (b) a DNA segment encoding a polypeptide comprising residues 3-425 of SEQ ID NO:2; and (c) a transcription terminator.
- 9. The expression vector of claim 8 further comprising a secretory signal sequence operably linked to the DNA segment.
- 10. The expression vector of claim 8 wherein the polypeptide is not more than 1500 amino acid residues in length.
- 11. The expression vector of claim 8 wherein the polypeptide is not more than 1000 amino acid residues in length.
- 12. The expression vector of claim 14 wherein the polypeptide is from 423 to 448 amino acid residues in length.
- 13. The expression vector of claim 8 wherein the polypeptide consists of residues 3-425 of SEQ ID NO:2, residues 2-425 of SEQ ID NO:2, or residues 1-425 of SEQ ID NO:2.
- 14. The expression vector of claim 8 wherein the polypeptide further comprises an affinity tag.
- 15. A cultured cell containing an expression vector according to claim 8, wherein the cell expresses the DNA segment.
- 16. A method of making a polypeptide comprising:
culturing the cell of claim 15 under conditions whereby the DNA segment is expressed; and recovering the polypeptide encoded by the DNA segment.
- 17. The method of claim 16 wherein the expression vector further comprises a secretory signal sequence operably linked to the DNA segment and wherein the polypeptide is secreted into and recovered from a culture medium in which the cell is cultured.
- 18. A polypeptide produced by the method of claim 16.
- 19. An antibody that specifically binds to the polypeptide of claim 5.
- 20. A method of reducing proteolysis of a protein in a solution, comprising adding to the solution an effective amount of the polypeptide of claim 18.
