Claims
- 1. A molecular device comprising:
at least one input molecular unit; at least one output molecular unit; and at least one internal molecular and charge transport unit connected at one terminus to said input molecular unit and connected at another terminus to said output molecular unit, wherein said molecular component of said molecular and charge transport unit performs memory or logic functions using molecular electrostatic potential based on perturbing the electrostatic potential of at least one molecule.
- 2. A molecular device comprising:
at least one input molecular unit; at least one output molecular unit; a charge transport means contacting said input molecular unit; and at least one molecular unit for performing memory or logic functions contacting said charge transport means for performing memory or logic functions using molecular electrostatic potential based on perturbing the electrostatic potential of at least one molecule.
- 3. A molecular device comprising:
at least one input molecular unit; at least one output molecular unit; and at least one molecular unit contacting said output molecular unit; and at least one molecular unit contacting said molecular layer and said input molecular unit for performing memory or logic functions using molecular electrostatic potential based on perturbing the electrostatic potential of at least one molecule.
- 4. The device of claim 1, wherein said molecular layer contains charged molecular units and counter-ions.
- 5. The device of claim 1 wherein said input and output layers are selected form the group consisting of semiconductors, glasses, plastics, polymers, metals, ceramics, insulators, organic material, or any combinations thereof.
- 6. The device of claim 1 wherein said molecular unit for performing logic functions is selected from the group consisting of AND, OR, NOT, NOR, XOR or any combinations thereof.
- 7. The charge transport unit of claim 1, wherein said electrolyte or charge transport means is selected from the group consisting of H+, Li+, Na+, K+, (CH3)4N+, (C4H9)4N+, NH4+, Mg+2, Ca+2, Cl−, Br−, I−, ClO4−, BF4−, PF6−, SO4−2, NO3−, PO3−2, OH−, CO3−2, CH3COO−, AsF6−, CF3SO3−, CFCOO−, [N(CF3SO2)2]−, [N(CF3SO2)(CH2)3OCH3]−, [(CF3SO2)2,CH]−, or any combinations thereof.
- 8. The charge transport unit of claim 1, wherein said electrolyte or charge transport means is a solid selected from the group consisting of polyethyleneoxide, nafion, polypropylene oxide, polyethylene glycol, lithium poly(2-sulfoethyl methacrylate), sodium poly(styrene sulfonate), poly(diallyidimethylammonium chloride), sodium poly(phosphazene sulfonate) or any combinations thereof, in combination with H+, Li+, Na+, K+, (CH3)4N+, (C4H9)4N+, NH4+, Mg+2, Ca+2, Cl−, Br−, I−, ClO4−, BF4−, PF6−, SO4−2, NO3−, PO3−2, OH−, CO3−2, CH3COO−, AsF6−, CF3SO3−, CFCOO−, [N(CF3SO2)2]−, [N(CF3SO2)(CH2)3OCH3]−, [(CF3SO2)2,CH]−, or any combinations thereof.
- 9. A molecular device comprising:
at least three molecular unit terminals; and at least one electrolyte or charge transport means, wherein upon application of a specific voltage one of said terminals permits current to flow.
- 10. The device of claim 2, wherein said molecular layer contains charged molecular units and counter-ions.
- 11. The device of claim 3, wherein said molecular layer contains charged molecular units and counter-ions.
- 12. The device of claim 2, wherein said input and output layers are selected form the group consisting of semiconductors, glasses, plastics, polymers, metals, ceramics, insulators, organic material, or any combinations thereof.
- 13. The device of claim 3, wherein said input and output layers are selected form the group consisting of semiconductors, glasses, plastics, polymers, metals, ceramics, insulators, organic material, or any combinations thereof.
- 14. The device of claim 2, wherein said molecular unit for performing logic functions is selected from the group consisting of AND, OR, NOT, NOR, XOR or any combinations thereof.
- 15. The device of claim 3, wherein said molecular unit for performing logic functions is selected from the group consisting of AND, OR, NOT, NOR, XOR or any combinations thereof.
- 16. The charge transport means of claim 2, wherein said electrolyte or charge transport means is selected from the group consisting of H+, Li+, Na+, K+, (CH3)4N+, (C4H9)4N+, NH4+, Mg+2, Ca+2, Cl−, Br−, I−, ClO4−, BF4−, PF6−, SO4−2, NO3−, PO3−2, OH−, CO3−2, CH3COO−, AsF6−, CF3SO3−, CFCOO−, [N(CF3SO2)2]−, [N(CF3SO2)(CH2)3OCH3]−, [(CF3SO2)2,CH]−, or any combinations thereof.

The charge transport means of claim 3, wherein said electrolyte or charge transport means is selected from the group consisting of H+, Li+, Na+, K+, (CH3)4N+, (C4H9)4N+, NH4+, Mg+2, Ca+2, Cl−, Br−, I−, ClO4−, BF4−, PF6−, SO4−2, NO3−, PO3−2, OH−, CO3−2, CH3COO−, AsF6−, CF3SO3−, CFCOO−, [N(CF3SO2)2]−, [N(CF3SO2)(CH2)3OCH3]−, [(CF3SO2)2,CH]−, or any combinations thereof.

The charge transport means of claim 2, wherein said electrolyte or charge transport means is a solid selected from the group consisting of polyethyleneoxide, nafion, polypropylene oxide, polyethylene glycol, lithium poly(2-sulfoethyl methacrylate), sodium poly(styrene sulfonate), poly(diallyldimethylammonium chloride), sodium poly(phosphazene sulfonate) or any combinations thereof, in combination with H+, Li+, Na+, K+, (CH3)4N+, (C4H9)4N+, NH4+, Mg+2, Ca+2, Cl−, Br−, I−, ClO4−, BF4−, PF6−, SO4−2, NO3−, PO3−2, OH−, CO3−2, CH3COO−, AsF6−, CF3SO3−, CFCOO−, [N(CF3SO2)2]−, [N(CF3SO2)(CH2)3OCH3]−, [(CF3SO2)2,CH]−, or any combinations thereof.

The charge transport means of claim 3, wherein said electrolyte or charge transport means is a solid selected from the group consisting of polyethyleneoxide, nafion, polypropylene oxide, polyethylene glycol, lithium poly(2-sulfoethyl methacrylate), sodium poly(styrene sulfonate), poly(diallyldimethylammonium chloride), sodium poly(phosphazene sulfonate) or any combinations thereof, in combination with H+, Li+, Na+, K+, (CH3)4N+, (C4H9)4N+, NH4+, Mg+2, Ca+2, Cl−, Br−, I−, ClO4−, BF4−, PF5−, SO4−2, NO3−, PO3−2, OH−, CO3−2, CH3COO−, AsF6−, CF3SO3, CFCOO−, [N(CF3SO2)2]−, [N(CF3SO2)(CH2)3OCH3]−, [(CF3SO2)2,CH]−, or any combinations thereof.
