Claims
- 1. A pump comprising:
an input; an output; a first main pump body including at least one pump section having an upper surface; a second main pump body including at least one pump section having a lower surface; an intermediate plate having a first surface that opposes said upper surface of said pump section of said first main pump body and a second surface that opposes said lower surface of said pump section of said second main pump body, said upper and lower surfaces cooperating with said first and second surfaces, respectively, selectively to define respective fluid passages extending from said input to said output, wherein the flow of fluid from said input to said output is controlled by activating said pump sections to move said upper and lower surfaces toward and away from said first and second surfaces, respectively.
- 2. The pump of claim 1, wherein portions of said first and second main pump bodies are rigidly supported by at least one of said intermediate plate and a support pillar for supporting said intermediate plate.
- 3. The pump of claim 1, wherein portions of said first and second main pump bodies are rigidly supported by at least one of said intermediate plate and an outer circumferential fixed section for supporting said intermediate plate.
- 4. A pump comprising:
a casing including an input and an output, and a first surface extending from said input to said output; a main pump body including at least two pump sections each having a pump actuator and an upper surface that cooperates with respective portions of said first surface of said casing selectively to define a fluid passage extending from said input to said output; and a valve section interposed between said pump sections, said valve section including a valve actuator; wherein the flow of fluid from said input to said output is controlled by actuating said pump sections to move said upper surface of each pump section toward and away from said respective portions of said first surface of said casing and by actuating said valve actuator of said valve section.
- 5. The pump of claim 4, wherein said valve section includes a displacement-transmitting section and a plurality of said valve actuators.
- 6. The pump of claim 4, wherein a displacement-transmitting section for each pump actuator is formed continuously with a displacement-transmitting section for said valve actuator.
- 7. The pump of claim 6, further comprising a crosstalk-preventive section between the displacement-transmitting section for each pump actuator and the displacement-transmitting section for said valve actuator.
- 8. The pump of claim 4, wherein each pump actuator includes a vibrating section and a fixed section, said valve actuator includes a vibrating section and a fixed section, and all of said vibrating sections and said fixed sections are formed integrally of ceramic material.
- 9. A pump comprising:
a casing including an input and an output, and a first surface extending from said input to said output; a main pump body including at least one pump section having a pump actuator and an upper surface that cooperates with said first surface of said casing selectively to define a fluid passage extending from said input to said output, wherein the flow of fluid from said input to said output is controlled by actuating said pump section to move said upper surface toward and away from said first surface of said casing; and an input valve section between said input and said main pump body, said input valve section including a displacement-transmitting section and a plurality of input valve actuators.
- 10. The pump according to claim 9, wherein a displacement-transmitting section for said pump actuator is formed continuously with a displacement-transmitting section for said input valve actuator.
- 11. The pump of claim 10, further comprising a crosstalk-preventive section between the displacement-transmitting section for said pump actuator and the displacement-transmitting section for said input valve actuator.
- 12. The pump of claim 9, wherein each pump actuator includes a vibrating section and a fixed section, said input valve actuator includes a vibrating section and a fixed section, and all of said vibrating sections and said fixed sections are formed integrally of ceramic material.
- 13. A pump comprising:
a casing including an input and an output, and a first surface extending from said input to said output; a main pump body including at least one pump section having a pump actuator and an upper surface that cooperates with said first surface of said casing selectively to define a fluid passage extending from said input to said output, wherein the flow of fluid from said input to said output is controlled by actuating said pump section to move said upper surface toward and away from said first surface of said casing; and an output valve section between said output and said main pump body, said output valve section including a displacement-transmitting section and a plurality of output valve actuators.
- 14. The pump according to claim 13, wherein a displacement-transmitting section for said pump actuator is formed continuously with a displacement-transmitting section for said output valve actuator.
- 15. The pump of claim 14, further comprising a crosstalk-preventive section between the displacement-transmitting section for said pump actuator and the displacement-transmitting section for said output valve actuator.
- 16. The pump of claim 13, wherein each pump actuator includes a vibrating section and a fixed section, said output valve actuator includes a vibrating section and a fixed section, and all of said vibrating sections and said fixed sections are formed integrally of ceramic material.
- 17. A pump comprising:
a casing including at least one input and at least one output, and a first surface extending from said at least one input to said at least one output; and a main pump body including a plurality of pump sections connected in series and/or parallel with one another, each pump section having an upper surface that cooperates with a respective portion of said first surface of said casing to provide a plurality of series and/or parallel fluid passages extending from said at least one input to said at least one output; wherein each pump section includes a vibrating section and a fixed section, and all of said vibrating sections and said fixed sections are formed integrally in a ceramic substrate; and wherein the flow of fluid from said at least one input to said at least one output is controlled by actuating said pump sections to move said upper surface of each pump section toward and away from said respective portions of said first surface of said casing.
