Claims
- 1. A punch assembly for a punch press having a quick tool change capability, said punch assembly comprising a punch sleeve having a punch slidably mounted therein, a tang extending from the sleeve, a bolt connected between the tang and the punch, an ejection spring member mounted between the tang and the bolt for yieldably biasing the bolt in the direction of the punch, an elastic retraction member mounted in the sleeve for biasing the punch and tang toward one end of the sleeve, means for retaining the ejection spring and bolt within the punch assembly during partial disassembly thereof so that only the punch is removed during said partial disassembly while the ejection spring and bolt remain in place when the punch is withdrawn after the bolt is unscrewed from the punch.
- 2. The punch assembly of claim 1 wherein a screw-threaded punch length adjustment platen is threadedly connected between the tang and the punch for adjusting the distance that the punch extends from the punch assembly.
- 3. The punch assembly of claim 1 wherein the pressure of the ejection spring on the bolt causes an audible clicking sound to be made as the bolt is turned after when the punch is free of the bolt, thereby audibly indicating that the punch can be removed.
- 4. A punch assembly for a punch press, said punch assembly comprising, a sleeve defining an enclosure for the punch assembly, a punch having an upper and a lower end, said punch being slidably mounted within the sleeve, a retraction spring operatively associated with the punch for forcing the punch toward a retracted position in the sleeve, the punch assembly includes a tang, said tang is spaced apart from the punch and is positioned above the upper end of the punch, a fastener connects the punch to the tang and a screw-threaded punch length adjustment platen is positioned in a space between the tang and the punch, said platen is threadedly connected between the tang and the punch for adjusting the distance that the punch extends from the punch assembly.
- 5. The punch assembly of claim 4 wherein retaining means is provided for holding the fastener in the assembly even after the fastener is released from the punch.
- 6. The punch assembly of claim 4 wherein a removable stripper plate is mounted at an end of the sleeve adjacent to the lower end of the punch to enclose the punch during operation and upon removal facilitating the removal of the punch from the sleeve without the removal of the fastener or the platen.
