- 3. The putting green assembly of claim 1 or 2 wherein the control unit automatically changes the topography of said playing mat following the putting of a predetermined number of balls.
- 4. A putting green assembly for use in golf ball putting practice, said assembly comprising a playing mat, a ball hole in said playing mat, means for adjusting the topography of said playing mat, said adjusting means including at least one independently controllable actuator located beneath and bearing against said playing mat, said actuator vertically moveable against said playing mat to create at least one incline therein, means for returning any putted balls on said playing mat to a predetermined location within said assembly, at least one detector for determining whether a putted ball has passed a predetermined location on the playing mat, and a control unit responsive to said detector and for automatically operating said topography adjusting and ball return means,
- said putting green assembly further comprising a housing surrounding said playing mat, said housing including a back wall angled acutely relative to said playing mat, a sloped floor-panel, a gutter channel and a side gutter, said side gutter directing balls to said sloped floor panel, said sloped floor panel directing balls to said gutter channel, said gutter channel directing said balls away from said ball cup.
- 5. The putting green assembly of claim 4 wherein said gutter channel further comprises a second trip piece, said second trip piece signalling to said control unit that a ball has entered the gutter channel.
- 6. The putting green assembly of claim 5 wherein said control unit activates at least one selected actuator until any putted ball falls off the mat and triggers said second trip piece in said gutter channel.
- 7. The putting green assembly of claim 4 wherein said gutter channel is attached to a ball return mechanism, said ball return mechanism being actuated by said control unit.
- 8. The putting green assembly of claim 7 wherein the ball return mechanism further comprises means for directing those balls which fall into said ball hole or said gutter channel to a ball kick, said ball kick being for propelling said balls to the surface of said playing mat.
- 9. A putting green assembly for use in golf ball putting practice, said assembly comprising a playing mat, a ball hole in said playing mat, means for adjusting the topography of said playing mat, said adjusting means including at least one independently controllable actuator located beneath and bearing against said playing mat, said actuator vertically moveable against said playing mat to create at least one incline therein, means for returning any putted balls on said playing mat to a predetermined location within said assembly, at least one detector for determining whether a putted ball has passed a predetermined location on the playing mat, and a control unit responsive to said detector and for automatically operating said topography adjusting and ball return means, wherein in said detector signals a score to the control unit if said detector senses a putted ball having passed said predetermined location on the playing mat and not in the hole.
- 10. A golf putting green assembly for use in golf ball putting practice comprising:
- a playing surface having a target hole;
- elevation means for adjusting the topography of said playing surface;
- a control unit for activating said elevation means;
- means mounted in said target hole for detecting a putted ball received therein and thereafter signalling said control unit;
- at least one detector for determining whether a putted ball has passed a predetermined location on said playing surface;
- timing means for detecting the time since a putted ball has passed said detector, and for signalling said control unit if said putted ball fails to enter said target hole within a predetermined time period;
- and ball return means.
- 11. The golf putting green assembly of claim 10 further comprising a gutter channel below said playing surface and a trip piece in said gutter channel for signalling said control unit that a ball has entered said gutter channel, wherein said control unit repeatedly adjusts said topography until a putted ball which fails to enter said target hole falls from said playing surface into said gutter channel and triggers said trip piece.
- 12. The golf putting green assembly of claim 10 wherein said elevation means are adjusted automatically by said control unit following the play of a predetermined number of balls.
- 13. A putting green assembly for use in golf ball putting practice, said assembly comprising a playing mat, a ball hole in said playing mat, means for adjusting the topography of said playing mat, said topography adjusting means capable of elevating a predetermined segment of said playing mat and thereby creating at least one incline therein, said incline causing any putted balls on said predetermined segment to move away from said incline of said playing mat, said topography adjusting means including a plurality of vertically moveable actuators that are arranged beneath the playing mat in a generally rectangular array and at least one additional vertically movable actuator being positioned within said rectangular array, and control means for automatically operating said topography adjusting means.
- 14. The putting green assembly of claim 13 wherein said actuators are electrically controlled.
- 15. The putting green assembly of claim 13 further comprising ball return means for receiving balls putted into said ball hole or rolling off of said playing mat and for returning said balls to a predetermined location within said assembly.
- 16. The putting green assembly of claim 13 wherein said control means automatically cause the adjusting means to change the topography of said playing mat after a ball is putted.
