Claims
- 1. A method for mapping media content information to an interactive program guide displayed on a screen, comprising the steps of:
displaying at least one personal video recording display channel in the interactive program guide; and displaying media content instance listings in the personal video recording display channel for corresponding media content instance recordings.
- 2. The method of claim 1, wherein the media content instance recordings include scheduled recordings to be downloaded to a storage device.
- 3. The method of claim 1, wherein the media content instance recordings include permanent recordings downloaded to a storage device.
- 4. The method of claim 1, wherein the media content instance recordings include temporary recordings downloaded at least in part to a storage device.
- 5. The method of claim 1, wherein the media content instance listings include titles of the media content instance recordings.
- 6. The method of claim 1, further comprising the step of enabling a user to categorize the personal video recording display channel by at least one of artist, title, theme, date of composition, time of broadcast, display channel, service, motion picture artists association motion picture artists association rating, time of recording, search rules, preference engine rules, tuner buffer, and by user configuration, wherein the user configuration option includes providing the user the ability to create a category and use that category as a keyword search for future recordings.
- 7. The method of claim 6, wherein the step of enabling categorization includes providing a selectable display of category options.
- 8. The method of claim 6, further comprising the step of mapping the media content instance listing for the recorded media content instance in the related categorized personal video recording display channel.
- 9. The method of claim 1, further comprising the step of enabling a user to tune into the display of any portion of a desired recorded media content instance and playback the desired recorded media content instance by selecting the corresponding media content instance listing from the interactive program guide.
- 10. The method of claim 1, further comprising the step of enabling a user to fast forward and rewind between media content instances displayed in the interactive program guide.
- 11. The method of claim 1, further comprising the step of enabling a user to configure a time area display in the interactive program guide as at least one of a scheduled recorded duration, an actual recorded duration, a grayed out area, a blank area, a ticker banner, an index alphanumeric, and by a time banner that is in real-time synchronization with broadcast media content instances from other display channels of the interactive program guide.
- 12. The method of claim 11, further comprising the step of enabling a user to access and playback a desired media content instance from any time during the presentation of the media content instance relative to the beginning of the presentation by synchronizing the displayed boundaries of the media content instance listing corresponding to said media content instance to time entries in the time banner.
- 13. The method of claim 11, further comprising the step of enabling a user to permanently record buffered media content by selecting a desired media content instance listing corresponding to a desired buffered media content instance from the interactive program guide and designating as permanently recorded.
- 14. The method of claim 1, further comprising the step of enabling a user to delete a media content instance identified in the interactive program guide by the corresponding media content instance listing by selecting the media content instance listing from the interactive program guide and designating as deleted.
- 15. The method of claim 1, further comprising the step of enabling a user to insert a media content instance listing for a broadcasted media content instance scheduled to be recorded among the media content instance listings located in the personal video recording display channel, wherein the scheduled recordings for the broadcast media content are mapped in the personal video recording display channel according to the real-time schedule.
- 16. The method of claim 1, wherein the step of displaying a personal video recording display channel includes the step of displaying multiple personal video recording display channels.
- 17. A method for mapping media content information to an interactive program guide displayed on a screen, comprising the steps of:
displaying multiple personal video recording display channels in an interactive program guide; enabling a user to configure the personal video recording display channels into categories; and displaying media content instance listings corresponding to media content instance recordings in the configured personal video recording display channels when the media content instances have characterizing information that matches the configured categories of the personal video recording display channels.
- 18. The method of claim 17, wherein the media content instance recordings include scheduled recordings to be downloaded to a storage device.
- 19. The method of claim 17, wherein the media content instance recordings include permanent recordings downloaded to a storage device.
- 20. The method of claim 17, wherein the media content instance recordings include temporary recordings downloaded at least in part to a storage device.
- 21. The method of claim 17, wherein the media content instance listings include titles of the media content instance recordings.
- 22. The method of claim 17, wherein the step of enabling further comprises the step of providing the categories in a displayed selectable list, wherein the categories include at least one of artist, title, theme, date of composition, time of broadcast, display channel, service, motion picture artists association rating, time of recording, search rules, preference engine rules, tuner buffer, and user configuration, wherein the user configuration option provides the user the ability to create a category and use that category as a keyword search for future recordings.
- 23. The method of claim 22, further comprising the step of providing subcategories in the displayed selectable list that provides further refinement to the categories.
- 24. The method of claim 17, further comprising the step of enabling the user to configure a time area display in the interactive program guide as at least one of a scheduled recorded duration, an actual recorded duration, a grayed out area, a blank area, a ticker banner, an index alphanumeric, and by a time banner that is in real-time synchronization with broadcast media content instances from other display channels of the interactive program guide.
- 25. The method of claim 17, further comprising the step of providing a default personal video recording display channel that includes media content instance listings for media content instances that have characterizing information not matching a configured personal video recording display channel.
- 26. The method of claim 17, wherein the characterizing information includes meta data.
- 27. A method for mapping media content information to an interactive program guide display, comprising the steps of:
displaying at least one personal video recording display channel in the interactive program guide; displaying media content instance listings in the personal video recording display channel for corresponding media content instance recordings, wherein the media content instance recordings include scheduled recordings to be downloaded to a storage device, permanent recordings downloaded to the storage device, and temporary recordings downloaded at least in part to the storage device, wherein the media content instance listings include titles of the media content instance recordings; enabling a user to categorize the personal video recording display channel by at least one of artist, title, theme, date of composition, time of broadcast, display channel, service, motion picture artists association rating, time of recording, search rules, preference engine rules, tuner buffer, and by user configuration, wherein the user configuration option provides the user the ability to create a category and use that category as a keyword search for future recordings, wherein the step of enabling categorization includes providing a selectable display of category options; and mapping the media content instance listing for the recorded media content instance in the related categorized personal video recording display channel.
- 28. A system for mapping media content information to an interactive program guide displayed on a screen, comprising:
a memory with logic; and a processor configured with the logic to display at least one personal video recording display channel in the interactive program guide, wherein the processor is further configured with the logic to display media content instance listings in the personal video recording display channel for corresponding media content instance recordings.
- 29. The system of claim 28, wherein the media content instance recordings include scheduled recordings to be downloaded to a storage device.
- 30. The system of claim 28, wherein the media content instance recordings include permanent recordings downloaded to a storage device.
- 31. The system of claim 28, wherein the media content instance recordings include temporary recordings downloaded at least in part to a storage device.
- 32. The system of claim 28, wherein the media content instance listings include titles of the media content instance recordings.
- 33. The system of claim 28, wherein the processor is further configured with the logic to provide a screen that enables a user to categorize the personal video recording display channel by at least one of artist, title, theme, date of composition, time of broadcast, display channel, service, motion picture artists association motion picture artists association rating, time of recording, search rules, preference engine rules, tuner buffer, and by user configuration, wherein the user configuration option includes providing the user the ability to create a category and use that category as a keyword search for future recordings.
- 34. The system of claim 33, wherein the processor is further configured with the logic to provide a selectable display of category options.
- 35. The system of claim 33, wherein the processor is further configured with the logic to map the media content instance listing for the recorded media content instance in the related categorized personal video recording display channel.
- 36. The system of claim 28, wherein the processor is further configured with the logic to enable a user to tune into the display of any portion of a desired recorded media content instance and playback the desired recorded media content instance by selecting the corresponding media content instance listing from the interactive program guide.
- 37. The system of claim 28, wherein the processor is further configured with the logic to enable a user to fast forward and rewind between media content instances displayed in the interactive program guide.
- 38. The system of claim 28, wherein the processor is further configured with the logic to provide a screen that enables a user to configure a time area display in the interactive program guide as at least one of a scheduled recorded duration, an actual recorded duration, a grayed out area, a blank area, a ticker banner, an index alphanumeric, and by a time banner that is in real-time synchronization with broadcast media content instances from other display channels of the interactive program guide.
- 39. The system of claim 38, wherein the processor is further configured with the logic to enable a user to access and playback a desired media content instance from any time during the presentation of the media content instance relative to the beginning of the presentation by synchronizing the displayed boundaries of the media content instance listing corresponding to said media content instance to time entries in the time banner.
- 40. The system of claim 38, wherein the processor is further configured with the logic to enable a user to permanently record buffered media content by selecting a desired media content instance listing corresponding to a desired buffered media content instance from the interactive program guide and designating as permanently recorded.
- 41. The system of claim 28, wherein the processor is further configured with the logic to enable a user to delete a media content instance identified in the interactive program guide by the corresponding media content instance listing by selecting the media content instance listing from the interactive program guide and designating as deleted.
- 42. The system of claim 28, wherein the processor is further configured with the logic to enable a user to enable a user to insert a media content instance listing for a broadcasted media content instance scheduled to be recorded among the media content instance listings located in the personal video recording display channel, wherein the scheduled recording for the broadcast media content is mapped in the personal video recording display channel according to the real-time schedule.
- 43. The system of claim 28, wherein the processor is further configured with the logic to display multiple personal video recording display channels.
- 44. A system for mapping media content information to an interactive program guide displayed on a screen, comprising:
a memory with logic; and a processor configured with the logic to display multiple personal video recording display channels in an interactive program guide, wherein the processor is further configured with the logic to provide a screen that enables a user to configure the personal video recording display channels into categories, wherein the processor is further configured with the logic to display media content instance listings corresponding to media content instance recordings in the configured personal video recording display channels when the media content instances have characterizing information that matches the configured categories of the personal video recording display channels.
- 45. The system of claim 44, wherein the media content instance recordings include scheduled recordings to be downloaded to a storage device.
- 46. The system of claim 44, wherein the media content instance recordings include permanent recordings downloaded to a storage device.
- 47. The system of claim 44, wherein the media content instance recordings include temporary recordings downloaded at least in part to a storage device.
- 48. The system of claim 44, wherein the media content instance listings include titles of the media content instance recordings.
- 49. The system of claim 44, wherein the processor is further configured with the logic to provide the categories in a displayed selectable list, wherein the categories include at least one of artist, title, theme, date of composition, time of broadcast, display channel, service, motion picture artists association rating, time of recording, search rules, preference engine rules, tuner buffer, and user configuration, wherein the user configuration option provides the user the ability to create a category and use that category as a keyword search for future recordings.
- 50. The system of claim 49, wherein the processor is further configured with the logic to provide subcategories in the displayed selectable list that provides further refinement to the categories.

The system of claim 44, wherein the processor is further configured with the logic to provide a screen that enables the user to configure a time area display in the interactive program guide as at least one of a scheduled recorded duration, an actual recorded duration, a grayed out area, a blank area, a ticker banner, an index alphanumeric, and by a time banner that is in real-time synchronization with broadcast media content instances from other display channels of the interactive program guide.
- 52. The system of claim 44, wherein the processor is further configured with the logic to provide a default personal video recording display channel that includes media content instance listings for media content instances that have characterizing information not matching a configured personal video recording display channel.
- 53. The system of claim 44, wherein the characterizing information includes meta data.
- 54. A system for mapping media content information to an interactive program guide display, comprising:
a memory with logic; and a processor configured with the logic to display at least one personal video recording display channel in the interactive program guide, wherein the processor is further configured with the logic to display media content instance listings in the personal video recording display channel for corresponding media content instance recordings, wherein the media content instance recordings include scheduled recordings to be downloaded to a storage device, permanent recordings downloaded to the storage device, and temporary recordings downloaded at least in part to the storage device, wherein the media content instance listings include titles of the media content instance recordings, wherein the processor is further configured with the logic to provide a screen that enables a user to categorize the personal video recording display channel by at least one of artist, title, theme, date of composition, time of broadcast, display channel, service, motion picture artists association rating, time of recording, search rules, preference engine rules, tuner buffer, and by user configuration, wherein the user configuration option provides the user the ability to create a category and use that category as a keyword search for future recordings, wherein the processor is further configured with the logic to provide a selectable display of category options, wherein the processor is further configured with the logic to map the media content instance listing for the recorded media content instance in the related categorized personal video recording display channel.
