Claims
- 1. A coupling driven by a shaft comprising a shaft coupling and a brush coupling, the shaft coupling secured to the drive shaft, the shaft coupling having a recess for receiving the brush coupling in axial alignment thereto, the brush coupling having means for receiving a brush, and a locking sleeve slidably mounted on the shaft coupling for opening and closing the shaft coupling recess for accommodating rapid interchange of brush couplings on the shaft coupling and for maintaining the shaft and brush couplings in axial alignment during use of the coupling, a spring for urging the sleeve into closed position over the shaft coupling recess, and the locking sleeve being in covering relation to the spring.
- 2. A coupling driven by a shaft comprising a shaft coupling and a brush coupling, the shaft coupling comprising a generally cylindrical body with a first recess for receiving a drive shaft, and with a second recess for slidably receiving the brush coupling in axial alignment, the brush coupling having a forward recess for receiving a brush and a rear section formed for mating connection to shaft coupling second recess, a locking sleeve slidably mounted along the exterior of the shaft coupling in covering relation to the second recess, the locking sleeve conforming to the contour of the shaft coupling, a locking spring fitted to the shaft coupling for urging the locking sleeve to enclose the shaft and brush couplings when connected so as to accommodate rapid interchange of brush couplings on the shaft coupling and for maintaining the shaft and brush couplings in axial alignment during use of the coupling, and the locking sleeve being in covering relation to the spring.
- 3. A coupling driven by a shaft comprising a shaft coupling and a brush coupling, the shaft coupling comprising a generally cylindrical body with a first recess for receiving a drive shaft, and with a second recess for slidably receiving the brush coupling in axial alignment, the brush coupling having a forward recess for receiving a brush and a rear section formed for mating connection to shaft coupling second recess, a locking sleeve slidably mounted along the exterior of the shaft coupling in covering relation to the second recess, the locking sleeve defining a spring receiving space along the shaft coupling, the locking sleeve having a depending flange defining a cylindrical surface for sliding along the shaft coupling surface. and defining an annular shoulder for engaging a locking spring, a locking spring fitted to the shaft coupling in the spring receiving space for urging the locking sleeve to enclose the shaft and brush couplings when connected so as to accommodate rapid interchange of brush couplings on the shaft coupling and for maintaining the shaft and brush couplings in axial alignment during use of the coupling, and the locking sleeve enclosing the locking spring.
- 4. A shaft coupling for driving a brush coupling, the shaft coupling having a recess for receiving the brush coupling in axial alignment thereto, a locking sleeve slidably mounted on the shaft coupling for opening and closing the shaft coupling recess for accommodating rapid interchange of brush couplings on the shaft coupling and for maintaining the shaft and brush couplings in axial alignment during use of the coupling, a spring for urging the sleeve into closed position over the shaft coupling recess, and the locking sleeve being in covering relation to the spring.
- 5. A shaft coupling for driving a brush coupling, the shaft coupling having means for receiving a brush coupling in axial alignment thereto, the shaft coupling having an exterior surface recess for mounting a locking sleeve and a locking spring, a locking sleeve slidably mounted over the exterior surface recess defining a spring receiving space, a locking spring mounted in said space and cooperating with the locking sleeve for opening and closing access to the brush coupling receiving means so as to accommodate rapid interchange of brush couplings on the shaft coupling and for maintaining the shaft and brush couplings in axial alignment during use of the coupling.
