Claims
- 1. A method for racemizing an optically active .alpha.-methyl-.beta.-acylthiopropionic acid of the formula, ##STR24## wherein R is a lower alkyl, phenyl or substituted phenyl bearing methyl or chloro radical, which comprises heating an optically active .alpha.-methyl-.beta.-acylthio-propionic acid of the above mentioned formula at 100.degree. C.-200.degree. C., in the presence of 0.05-1 equivalent of a sodium, potassium, or calcium salt of a lower fatty or aromatic acid or a tertiary amine salt.
- 2. A method according to claim 1, wherein the salt is sodium acetate, potassium acetate, calcium acetate or sodium benzoate.
- 3. A method according to claim 1, wherein the .alpha.-methyl-.beta.-acylthiopropionic acid is .alpha.-methyl-.beta.-acetylthiopropionic acid or .alpha.-methyl-.beta.-benzoylthiopropionic acid.
