Claims
- 1. A method for performing frequency correction in a wireless terminal comprising:receiving an Rx RF information signal; down converting the Rx RF information signal based upon a local oscillation to produce an Rx baseband signal; determining an Rx frequency error of the Rx baseband signal; based upon the Rx frequency error, determining an Rx frequency offset command and a Tx frequency offset command; based upon the Rx frequency offset command, phase rotating complex symbols of the Rx baseband signal to frequency correct the Rx baseband signal; based upon the Tx frequency offset command, phase rotating complex symbols of a Tx baseband signal to frequency correct the Tx baseband signal; and up converting the Tx baseband signal based upon the local oscillation to produce a Tx RF information signal.
- 2. The method of claim 1, further comprising adjusting operation of a local oscillator that produces the local oscillation based upon the Rx frequency error.
- 3. The method of claim 1, further comprising adjusting operation of a local oscillator that produces the local oscillation based upon a temperature of the local oscillator.
- 4. The method of claim 1, further comprising adjusting operation of a local oscillator that produces the local oscillation based upon an age of the local oscillator.
- 5. The method of claim 1, wherein a magnitude of frequency correction available by phase rotating complex symbols of the Rx baseband signal is limited.
- 6. The method of claim 1, wherein the Rx frequency error is determined over a received burst.
- 7. The method of claim 6, wherein each complex symbol of the Rx baseband signal of the received burst is phase rotated by a respective phase offset.
- 8. A method for performing frequency correction in a wireless terminal comprising:calibrating a local oscillator that produces a local oscillation; entering a tracking mode that includes: receiving an Rx RF information signal; mixing the Rx RF information signal with the local oscillation to produce an Rx baseband signal; determining an Rx frequency error of the Rx baseband signal; based upon the Rx frequency error, determining an Rx frequency offset command and a Tx frequency offset command; based upon the Rx frequency offset command, phase rotating complex symbols of the Rx baseband signal to frequency correct the Rx baseband signal; based upon the Tx frequency offset command, phase rotating complex symbols of a Tx baseband signal to frequency correct the Tx baseband signal; and up converting the Tx baseband signal based upon the local oscillation to produce a Tx RF information signal; and when the Rx frequency error exceeds a threshold, adjusting operation of the local oscillator based upon the Rx frequency error.
- 9. The method of claim 8, further comprising adjusting operation of the local oscillator based upon a temperature of the local oscillator.
- 10. The method of claim 8, further comprising adjusting operation of the local oscillator based upon an age of the local oscillator.
- 11. The method of claim 8, wherein a magnitude of frequency correction available by phase rotating complex symbols of the Rx baseband signal is limited.
- 12. The method of claim 8, wherein the Rx frequency error is determined over a received burst.
- 13. The method of claim 12, wherein each complex symbol of the Rx baseband signal of the received burst is phase rotated by a respective phase offset.
- 14. A wireless terminal comprising:an RF front end operable to receive an Rx RF information signal; a local oscillator operable to produce a local oscillation; a down converter operable to down convert the Rx RF information signal based upon the local oscillation to produce an Rx baseband signal; a frequency error estimator operable to determine an Rx frequency error of the Rx baseband signal; automatic frequency control operable to, based upon the Rx frequency error, determine an Rx frequency offset command and a Tx frequency offset command; a downlink phase rotator operable to, based upon the Rx frequency offset command, phase rotate complex symbols of the Rx baseband signal to frequency correct the Rx baseband signal; an uplink phase rotator operable to, based upon the Tx frequency offset command, phase rotate complex symbols of a Tx baseband signal to frequency correct the Tx baseband signal; and an up converter operable to up convert the Tx baseband signal based upon the local oscillation to produce a Tx RF information signal.
- 15. The wireless terminal of claim 14, wherein the automatic frequency control is further operable to adjust operation of the local oscillator based upon the Rx frequency error.
- 16. The wireless terminal of claim 14, wherein the automatic frequency control is further operable to adjust operation of the local oscillator based upon a temperature of the local oscillator.
- 17. The wireless terminal of claim 14, wherein the automatic frequency control is further operable to adjust operation of the local oscillator based upon an age of the local oscillator.
- 18. The wireless terminal of claim 14, wherein a magnitude of frequency correction available by phase rotating complex symbols of the Rx baseband signal is limited.
- 19. The wireless terminal of claim 14, wherein the frequency error estimator is operable to determine the Rx frequency error over a received burst.
- 20. The wireless terminal of claim 14, wherein the uplink phase rotator is operable to phase rotate each complex symbol of the Rx baseband signal by a respective phase offset.
- 21. A wireless terminal comprising:an RF front end operable to receive an Rx RF information signal; a local oscillator operable to produce a local oscillation; a down converter operable to down convert the Rx RF information signal based upon the local oscillation to produce an Rx baseband signal; a frequency error estimator operable to determine an Rx frequency error of the Rx baseband signal; automatic frequency control operable to: determine an Rx frequency offset command based upon the Rx frequency error; determine a Tx frequency offset command based upon the Rx frequency error; and adjust operation of the local oscillator based upon the Rx frequency error when the Rx frequency error exceeds a threshold; a downlink phase rotator operable to, based upon the Rx frequency offset command, phase rotate complex symbols of the Rx baseband signal to frequency correct the Rx baseband signal; an uplink phase rotator operable to, based upon the Tx frequency offset command, phase rotate complex symbols of a Tx baseband signal to frequency correct the Tx baseband signal; and an up converter operable to up convert the Tx baseband signal based upon the local oscillation to produce a Tx RF information signal.
- 22. The wireless terminal of claim 21, wherein the automatic frequency control is further operable to adjust operation of the local oscillator based upon a temperature of the local oscillator.
- 23. The wireless terminal of claim 21, wherein the automatic frequency control is further operable to adjust operation of the local oscillator based upon an age of the local oscillator.
- 24. The wireless terminal of claim 21, wherein a magnitude of frequency correction available by phase rotating complex symbols of the Rx baseband signal is limited.
- 25. The wireless terminal of claim 21, wherein the frequency error estimator is operable to determine the Rx frequency error over a received burst.
