Claims
- 1. A brake release system for an auxiliary parking brake on a railway train having at least one car equipped with fluid pressure operated service brakes, said brake release system comprising:
- (a) a manually operable auxiliary parking brake apparatus;
- (b) a source of fluid pressure;
- (c) a first means for connecting said source of fluid pressure to said auxiliary parking brake apparatus;
- (d) a second means for manually operating said auxiliary parking brake apparatus to a braking position;
- (e) a third means responsive to a predetermined level of fluid pressure at said source of fluid pressure for releasing said auxiliary parking brake apparatus; and
- (f) a parking brake release control means for controlling application of fluid pressure to said third means to thereby control release of said auxiliary parking brake apparatus.
- 2. A brake release system for an auxiliary parking brake on a railway train, according to claim 1, in which said source of fluid pressure is fluid pressure for such fluid pressure operated service brakes.
- 3. A brake release system for an auxiliary parking brake on a railway train, according to claim 2, in which said fluid pressure is pneumatic.
- 4. A brake release system for an auxiliary parking brake on a railway train, according to claim 1, wherein said source of fluid pressure is separate from fluid pressure for such fluid pressure operated service brakes.
- 5. A parking brake release system for at least one car of a railway train having a service brake air pipe, said parking brake release system operating automatically upon completion of an air brake test when such railway train is being prepred to leave a yard or terminal, said parking brake release system comprising:
- (a) a parking brake release cylinder disposed on such car and connected to a parking brake mechanism for releasing such parking brake;
- (b) a parking brake release valve connected to an inlet port of said parking brake release cylinder for communicating air pressure to said parking brake release cylinder which will effect release of such parking brake;
- (c) a T-valve means connected to a first inlet port of said parking brake release valve for communication air pressure to said first inlet port, said T-valve having a first inlet port connected for air pressure communication with such service brake air pipe, said T-valve having a second port connected to an air communication line joining a shutoff valve of such service brakes and an air brake control valve; and
- (d) a second inlet port disposed on said parking brake release valve connected for receiving air from an air brake control valve of such railway vehicle, said air from said railway car air brake control valve also being applied to a service air brake cylinder of said railway vehicle.
