Claims
- 1. An apparatus for introducing steam into an airstream in an HVAC humidification system, comprising:
- a supply header which is adapted for connection to a source of steam;
- a plurality of steam dispersion tubes, each of said dispersion tubes having a plurality of orifices defined therein for releasing steam into an airstream for humidification purposes; and
- quick disconnect means for coupling and decoupling each of said dispersion tubes to said supply header, said quick disconnect means comprising a slidable rigid collar member, said collar member having a first sealing means for forming a tight seal with said supply header and a second sealing means for forming a tight seal with said dispersion tube, whereby said steam dispersion tubes can be efficiently removed from the apparatus for cleaning or replacement, and the apparatus can be quickly and easily assembled on site.
- 2. Apparatus according to claim 1, further comprising a return header for receiving steam and condensate from a second end of each of said steam dispersion tubes which is opposite from a first end to which said supply header is connected; and second quick disconnect means for coupling and decoupling said second ends to said return header.
- 3. Apparatus according to claim 1, wherein said first and second sealing means comprise, respectively, a first elastomeric member and a second elastomeric member.
- 4. Apparatus according to claim 1, wherein said collar further comprises a set screw for locking said collar in a coupled position.
- 5. An apparatus according to claim 1, wherein said supply header comprises a plurality of tube nipple portions, and said first sealing means is adapted for forming a tight seal with said tube nipple portion.
- 6. Apparatus according to claim 1, wherein said quick disconnect means can couple and decouple each of said dispersion tubes to said supply header in a single motion.
- 7. Apparatus according to claim 6, wherein said single motion is a linear motion.
- 8. Apparatus according to claim 1, wherein said collar member is fabricated from a material which has a low thermal conductivity.
- 9. Apparatus according to claim 8, wherein said material comprises high-temperature plastic.
- 10. An apparatus for introducing steam to an air stream in an HVAC humidification system, comprising:
- at least one tube having a first inlet end which is adapted to be connected to a source of steam and a second outlet end which is adapted to be connected to a liquid and steam collecting structure, said tube having a plurality of radial holes defined therein, and
- a plurality of nozzles inserted, respectively, in said radial holes, said nozzles each having an axial bore therein for conducting steam from said tube into an air stream, each of said nozzles including an outer portion disposed outside of said tube in the air stream, said outer portion being constructed to protrude as little as possible into the airstream and being tapered into an outer surface of said tube, whereby resistance to the airstream and thermal transfer to the airstream are minimized.
- 11. An apparatus for introducing steam into an air stream in an HVAC humidification system, comprising:
- a supply header which is adapted for connection to a source of steam;
- a plurality of steam dispersion tubes connected at a first end to said supply header, each of said dispersion tubes having a plurality of orifices defined therein for releasing steam into an airstream for humidification purposes;
- a return header for receiving steam and condensate from a second end of each of said steam dispersion tubes which is opposite from said first end;
- first quick disconnect means for coupling and decoupling each of said dispersion tubes to said supply header; and
- second quick disconnect means for coupling and decoupling said second ends to said return header, whereby said steam dispersion tubes can be efficiently removed from the apparatus for cleaning or replacement, and the apparatus can be quickly and easily assembled on site.
