Claims
- 1. A rapid infusion system for delivery of an infusium to a patient, comprising:
a pump assembly; and a differential drive assembly that drives the pump assembly.
- 2. The rapid infusion system of claim 1, wherein the system is capable of delivering infusium at standard flow rates and rapid flow rates.
- 3. The rapid infusion system of claim 1 wherein the system can provide fluid flow rates from less than 25 cc/hour to over 1500 cc/minute.
- 4. The rapid infusion system of claim 1, wherein the differential drive assembly interacts with at least a low speed motor and a high speed motor.
- 5. The rapid infusion system of claim 1, further comprising a fluid containment assembly.
- 6. The rapid infusion system of claim 5, wherein the fluid containment assembly is removable from the system.
- 7. The rapid infusion system of claim 5, wherein the fluid containment assembly includes a pump cartridge having a cartridge frame and a pump chamber that is retained by the cartridge frame.
- 8. The rapid infusion system of claim 7, wherein the pump chamber is a preformed collapsible plastic tube.
- 9. The rapid infusion system of claim 8, wherein the preformed pump chamber has a circular, semicircular, “U”, or “Ω” shape.
- 10. The rapid infusion system of claim 5, wherein the fluid containment assembly includes a drip chamber that is fluid self leveling.
- 20. The rapid infusion system of claim 1, further comprising a single central venous catheter through which the infusium is delivered to the patient and the C.V.P. is measured.
- 21. The rapid infusion system of claim 20, wherein the system includes a controller that adjusts the flow rate to achieve a programmed C.V.P.
- 22. The rapid infusion system of claim 1, further comprising a control system that receives a signal from a sensor and controls an element of the system selected from the group consisting of a pump drive assembly, a temperature controller, and a self-leveling drip chamber.
- 23. The rapid infusion system of claim 22, wherein the sensor is selected from a C.V.P. sensor, a system pressure sensor, a fluid level sensor, a temperature sensor, and an air bubble sensor.
- 24. A rapid infusion system for delivery of an infusium to a patient, comprising:
a fluid containment assembly that includes a pump chamber that includes a collapsible plastic tube; a roller pump assembly that pumps the infusium through the fluid containment assembly by imparting motion to infusium within the pump chamber; and a drive assembly that drives the pump assembly.
- 25. A rapid infusion system for delivery of an infusium to a patient, comprising:
a fluid containment assembly including a pump chamber; a roller pump assembly that imparts motion to infusium in the pump chamber; and a drive assembly that drives the pump assembly; wherein the roller pump assembly includes a pump roller head assembly that is retractable to facilitate loading and unloading of the pump chamber from the rapid infusion system.
- 26. A rapid infusion system for delivery of an infusium to a patient, comprising:
a fluid containment assembly including a fluid self-leveling drip chamber; a pump assembly that pumps the infusium through the fluid containment assembly; and a drive assembly that drives the pump assembly.
- 27. A rapid infusion system for delivery of an infusium to a patient, comprising:
a pump assembly that pumps the infusium through the fluid containment assembly; and a drive assembly that drives the pump assembly; wherein the system is capable of delivering infusium at standard flow rates and rapid flow rates; and further including a titrator to titrate the flow rate from the standard flow rate to a preset rapid flow rate for rapid infusion.
