Claims
- 1. A flame retardant polymeric composition comprising a polymer selected from the group consisting of polyester and polyurethane polymers and chemically bound into the polymer a flame retarding amount of a phosphate of the formula ##STR9## wherein R and R' are independently selected from lower haloalkyls having 2 to 6 carbon atoms and 1 to 6 halogen atoms, n is an integer from 1 to 3, and wherein each X is independently selected from hydrogen, halogen, alkyl, and hydroxyl, provided that only one X is hydroxyl.
- 2. The composition of claim 1 wherein the halogen is chlorine or bromine.
- 3. The composition of claim 2 wherein X is independently selected from hydrogen, halogen and hydroxyl.
- 4. The improvement in the process for the preparation of flame retardant polyester and polyurethane polymers which comprises having in the reaction mixture a flame retarding amount of a phosphate of the formula, ##STR10## wherein R and R' are independently selected from lower haloalkyls having 2 to 6 carbon atoms and 1 to 6 halogen atoms, n is an integer from 1 to 3, and wherein each X is independently selected from hydrogen, halogen, alkyl, and hydroxyl, provided that only one X is hydroxyl.
- 5. The process of claim 4 wherein the halogen is chlorine or bromine.
