Claims
- 1. A reactive plastisol dispersion comprising
- (1) a polyvinyl acetal thermoplast in particle form having a particle size in the range from about 0.1 to about 1,500 microns;
- (2) a liquid plasticizer member of the group consisting of
- (a) at least one ethylenically unsaturated monomer, oligomer or prepolymer of the formula: ##STR15## wherein R is H or CH.sub.3, R.sub.1 is an organic moiety and n is 1 or more,
- (b) at least one unsaturated polyester containing the group: ##STR16## wherein R.sub.2 and R.sub.3 are organic moieties, x is 0-20 and y is 1-20; and
- (c) a mixture of (a) and (b),
- said liquid plasticizer being present in an amount ranging from 50 to 2,000 parts per 100 parts of the thermoplast by weight; and
- (3) 0.0005 to 30% by weight of the plasticizer of a photoinitiator.
- 2. The process of forming a solidified homogeneous mass which comprises admixing a reactive plastisol dispersion comprising
- (1) a polyvinyl acetal thermoplast in particle form having a particle size in the range from about 0.1 to about 1,500 microns and
- (2) a liquid plasticizer member of the group consisting of
- (a) at least one ethylenically unsaturated monomer, oligomer or prepolymer of the formula: ##STR17## wherein R is H or CH.sub.3, R.sub.1 is an organic moiety and n is 1 or more,
- (b) at least one unsaturated polyester containing the group: ##STR18## wherein R.sub.2 and R.sub.3 are organic moieties, x is 0-20 and y is 1-20; and
- (c) a mixture of (a) and (b),
- said liquid plasticizer being present in an amount ranging from 50 to 2,000 parts per 100 parts of the thermoplast by weight; and
- (3) 0.0005 to 30% by weight of the plasticizer of a photoinitiator
- and, thereafter, heating the admixture for a time sufficient to flux the mass.
- 3. A composition comprising a reactive, solid, homogeneous, fluxed plastisol formed from
- (1) a polyvinyl acetal thermoplast in particle form having a particle size in the range from about 0.1 to about 1,500 microns and
- (2) a liquid plasticizer member of the group consisting of
- (a) at least one ethylenically unsaturated monomer, oligomer or prepolymer of the formula: ##STR19## wherein R is H or CH.sub.3, R.sub.1 is an organic moiety and n is 1 or more,
- (b) at least one unsaturated polyester containing the group: ##STR20## wherein R.sub.2 and R.sub.3 are organic moieties, x is 0-20 and y is 1-20; and
- (c) a mixture of (a) and (b),
- said liquid plasticizer being present in an amount ranging from 50 to 2,000 parts per 100 parts of the thermoplast by weight; and
- (3) 0.0005 to 30% by weight of the plasticizer of a photoinitiator.
- 4. The dispersion of claim 1 wherein the polyvinyl acetal is polyvinyl formal.
- 5. The dispersion of claim 1 wherein the polyvinyl acetal is polyvinyl butyral.
- 6. The dispersion of claim 1 wherein the thermoplast is polyvinyl formal and the plasticizer is (a).
- 7. The dispersion of claim 1 wherein the thermoplast is polyvinyl formal and the plasticizer is (b).
- 8. The process of claim 2 wherein the polyvinyl acetal is polyvinyl formal.
- 9. The process of claim 2 wherein the polyvinyl acetal is polyvinyl butyral.
- 10. The process of claim 2 wherein the thermoplast is polyvinyl formal and the plasticizer is (a).
- 11. The process of claim 2 wherein the thermoplast is polyvinyl formal and the plasticizer is (b).
- 12. The composition of claim 3 wherein the polyvinyl acetal is polyvinyl formal.
- 13. The composition of claim 3 wherein the polyvinyl acetal is polyvinyl butyral.
- 14. The composition of claim 3 wherein the thermoplast is polyvinyl formal and the plasticizer is (a).
- 15. The composition of claim 3 wherein the thermoplast is polyvinyl formal and the plasticizer is (b).
- 16. The process of forming a thermoset material which comprises exposing the reactive solid, homogeneous, fluxed plastisol of claim 3 to UV radiation for a time sufficient to form a thermoset material.
