Claims
- 1. A lens wheel for a read-write head of an optical recording apparatus, comprising:
- a disk-shaped substrate precision molded from optical quality material to unitarily fabricate the disk-shaped substrate with a plurality of molded lenses positioned about the circumference of the disk, each lens comprising optical quality material having an index of refraction of approximately 2.25 over a preselected range of operating wavelengths.
- 2. The apparatus of claim 1, wherein each lens comprises a plano-convex singlet having a planar surface and an opposed convex powered surface having an aspheric figure defined according to preselected lens parameters.
- 3. The apparatus of claim 2, wherein the lens parameters for the aspheric figure of the convex powered surface are selected as a function of wave length of an illuminating beam of light received by the plurality of molded lenses for operation of the lens over a preselected wave length range.
- 4. The apparatus of claim 1, wherein each of the lenses are diamond point turned in the disk shaped substrate.
- 5. The apparatus of claim 4, wherein each diamond point turned lens comprises a plano-convex singlet having a planar surface and an opposed convex powered surface with an aspheric figure defined according to preselected lens parameters.
- 6. A lens wheel for a read-write head of an optical recording apparatus comprising:
- a disk shaped substrate, precision molded from optical quality material to unitarily fabricate the disk shaped substrate with a plurality of molded lens positioned about the circumference of the disk, each lens comprising optical quality material forming a plano-convex singlet having a planar surface and an opposed convex powered surface, the powered surface having an aspheric figure defined according to preselected lens parameters.
- 7. The apparatus of claim 6, wherein each lens has an index of refraction of approximately 2.25 over a preselected range of operating wave lengths.
- 8. The apparatus of claim 6, wherein each of the lens are diamond point turned in the disk shaped substrate.
- 9. The apparatus of claim 6, wherein the disk shaped substrate includes a layer of epoxy deposited on one side thereof and a plurality of lens positioned about the circumference of the disk and diamond point turned into the epoxy layer.
- 10. The apparatus of claim 6, wherein the lens parameters for the aspheric figure of the convex powered surface are selected as a function of wave length of an illuminating beam of light received by the plurality of molded lenses for operation of the lens over a preselected wave length range.
