Claims
- 1. A device for playing a prerecorded audio signal printed as an array of infra-red ink dots in a fault tolerant encoded form on a surface of a photograph coincident with an image printed on said surface of said photograph, said image and said infra-red ink dots having been printed by a camera having an in-built printer, the device comprising:an infra-red scanner adapted to scan, the printed infra-red ink dots of said encoded audio signal; a processor interconnected to said infra-red scanner and adapted to decode said scanned encoded audio signal to produce a corresponding audio signal; and an audio emitter interconnected to said processor and a dapted to play said corresponding audio signal on demand.
- 2. The device as claimed in claim 1 wherein said encoded audio signal is a Reed-Solomon encoded audio signal.
- 3. The device as claimed in claim 1 wherein said device includes a wand-like arm having a slot through which said photograph may be inserted.
- 4. The device as claimed in claim 1 wherein said encoded audio signal is encoded using a high-frequency checkerboard modulation of said array of IR dots.
- 5. A method of decoding a prerecorded audio signal printed as an array of infra-red ink dots in a fault tolerant encoded form on a surface of a photograph coincident with an image printed on said surface of said photograph, said image and said infra-red ink dots having been printed by a camera having an in-built printer, said method comprising the steps of:(a) scanning the encoded audio signal on said photograph using an infra-red scanner; (b) decoding said encoded audio signal to produce a corresponding audio signal; and (c) playing said corresponding audio signal on an audio output device.
- 6. A method as claimed in claim 5 wherein said encoded form includes a high-frequency checkerboard modulation of said array of IR dots.
- 7. A method as claimed in claim 5 wherein said encoded audio signal is a Reed-Solomon encoded audio signal.
