Claims
- 1. A receptacle for receiving and removably locking a data module, to effectuate a data communication between the data module and an interface circuit, comprising:
- a top cover;
- a bottom cover, coupled to said top cover;
- a first support having a circular wall, disposed in a first cavity formed by said top cover and said bottom cover, said circular wall having a plurality of slots on its inner surface, said plurality of slots not fully extending along the height of said wall;
- a first spring comprising a top coil and a bottom coil, said first spring disposed on an outer surface of said circular wall of said first support;
- a second support comprising a circular pedestal having a plurality of radial extensions, said second support movably disposed in a second cavity formed by an inner surface of said first support such that at least one of said plurality of radial extensions is positioned within at least one of said plurality of slots;
- a second spring having a first end and a second end, said first end rigidly coupled to said circular pedestal; and
- means for establishing an electrical connection, disposed in a groove formed in said bottom cover, comprising a printed circuit board having a ground pad and a data pad, wherein said ground pad is in a first electrically conductive relationship with said bottom coil of said first spring and said data pad is in a second electrically conductive relationship with said second end of second spring.
- 2. The receptacle of claim 1, wherein said interface circuit is a computer interface circuit.
- 3. The receptacle of claim 1, wherein said data communication has a function, said function being at least one of access control, electronic verification, software authorization, privileged switching and personalized data monitoring.
- 4. A receptacle apparatus for providing an interface between a first electrical circuit and a second electrical circuit, the receptacle apparatus comprising:
- a movable columnar support attached to a first end of a first electrically conductive element, wherein said first end is electrically engageable by the first electrical circuit;
- a tubular support structure having a cavity, said cavity having a proximal end and a distal end, said movable columnar support disposed in said cavity, wherein said first end of said first electrically conductive element is positioned near said proximal end of said cavity;
- an electrical pad positioned near said distal end of said cavity, wherein said electrical pad is electrically connectable to the second electrical circuit; and
- wherein a second end of said first electrically conductive element engages said electrical pad upon engagement of said first end by the first electrical circuit and further wherein said first electrically conductive element is an electrically conductive spring.
- 5. The receptacle apparatus as recited in claim 4, wherein said tubular support structure is disposed in a housing having a top cover and a bottom cover.
- 6. The receptacle apparatus as recited in claim 4, wherein said first electrical circuit is a portable data carrier of the type having a monolithic integrated circuit.
- 7. The receptacle apparatus as recited in claim 4, wherein said second electrical circuit is an interface circuit associated with an electronic device.
- 8. The receptacle apparatus as recited in claim 7, wherein said electronic device is a computer.
- 9. The receptacle apparatus as recited in claim 4, wherein said first electrical circuit is a Touch Memory.TM. button.
- 10. The receptacle apparatus as recited in claim 4 further comprising:
- a second electrically conductive element having a first end and a second end, said first end being engageable by the first electrical circuit, said second electrically conductive element disposed on the outer surface of said tubular support structure.
- 11. The receptacle apparatus as recited in claim 4 further comprising:
- a second electrical pad positioned near said distal end of said cavity of said tubular support structure, said second electrical pad being electrically connectable to the second electrical circuit and said second end of said second electrically conductive element.
- 12. An information transfer system, comprising:
- an information carrier device of the type having a first electrical terminal and a second electrical terminal;
- a movable support disposed in a tubular support having a cavity, said movable support being coupled to a first end of a first engageable electrically conductive element;
- a second engageable electrically conductive element having a top contact and a bottom contact, said second engageable electrically conductive element being disposed on the outer surface of said tubular support such that said top contact is spaced from said first end of said first engageable electrically conductive element;
- a first electrical pad, said first electrical pad being positioned proximally to a second end of said first engageable electrically conductive element;
- a second electrical pad, said second electrical pad being positioned proximally to said bottom contact of said second engageable electrically conductive element; and
- wherein upon engaging said movable support with said information carrier device such that said first electrical terminal engages said first end of said first engageable electrically conductive element and said second electrical terminal engages said top contact of said second engageable electrically conductive element, each of said second end of said first engageable electrically conductive element and said bottom contact of said second engageable electrically conductive element torsionally engage said first electrical pad and said second electrical pad, respectively, thereby completing an electrical circuit therethrough for transfer of information.
- 13. The information transfer system as recited in claim 12, wherein said information carrier device comprises a Touch Memory.TM. button of the type having a first electrically conductive surface and a second electrically conductive surface, further wherein at least a portion of said first electrically conductive surface is operable as said first electrical terminal and at least a portion of said second electrically conductive surface is operable as said second electrical terminal.
- 14. The information transfer system as recited in claim 12, wherein said first electrical pad is electrically operable for receiving data signals comprising information, and wherein said second electrical pad is electrically operable as a ground.
